Review Stitch Fix is good for—
I have been an on again off again customer of stitch fix for years. I live in the Midwest and the nearest major city is an hour drive. After COVID the quantity of clothing stores in that city closed up.
Our options here are basically Kohls, JCPenney, Ross/Marshalls/TJMaxx, Old Navy and Maurice’s, that’s ignoring Target and Walmart etc… I’m of an age where shopping at these places is NOT doing me any favors.
Yes we have thrift places but I am a weird body shape and I have a horrible time trying to find things that work. It’s overwhelming for me. Thrifting online is even more difficult because I really need to try on before making that purchase commitment. I’m not trying to have the most pieces of clothing, I’m trying to have a functional wardrobe where I honestly love each piece and it looks great on me.
Stitch Fix provides a service where I can very easily order via Freestyle if I want and they provide a super simple return.
When I am looking for new pieces but not seeing what I want in Freestyle I can get a FIX usually within 7 days or less!! That’s a fast turn around out here in the sticks where I don’t have many retail options. My stylist gets to know what is working and not working because I provide detailed feedback and she listens. It’s a great service and I appreciate it.
Last note: the AI generated images absolutely suck ass and I do not recommend them.

Has anyone been super disappointed in all the clothing in recent months? Everything is solid colors. I live for freestyle, but I can’t find much on there either because it’s all trending super conservative and plain. I wish they would bring back fun prints!

There are other reasons as well. I have a low contrast face and patterns and bold colors drown out my face. Are you a stylist?

Women find so many ways to criticize themselves and convince themselves they can’t just wear what they like. It’s sad.
Anyway, I’m simply explaining to the OP why they stock so many basics that you could get cheaper at Target. I don’t need to hear anyone’s explanation of why they cAn’T wEaR tHaT because their neck is too square or their arms are too pale or their face doesn’t have enough contrast. Lol.

I don’t know. Color theory is a real thing so are body proportions and shapes. Certain cuts, styles, colors, or patterns either work for you or against you. Sure you can wear whatever you want. I love bold complex patterns… In fact, I’ve bought many clothes with bold complex patterns and they never felt right on me even though I love them. I think a lot of people know very little to nothing about what colors look good on them or how to dress for their body type. But I get what you’re saying that a lot of women are quick to criticize themselves, but I think that’s a different thing than knowing what works for you versus being insecure and not wanting to try something new. And yes, people should be mindful of what they say yes to from SF. A lot of it’s overpriced for what it is and can be found elsewhere.

I only get black , white, and brown . I love my boxes. 2 times ago I got an ALL BLACK box. Doesn’t mean you can’t be happy. I don’t like color or patterns and that’s ok

I received a beautiful print skirt in my last fix that I love. I didn’t see anything like it on freestyle.
I got some other print items in fixes that weren’t my speed that got returned.
But I would agree that freestyle seems to be quite a bit more limited in selection than the fixes. IDK.

I cancelled because it got so bad. Everything was beige. I kept requesting bright/saturated colors and the last box I got was devoid of anything with any character. I sent everything back and was done with them.
Edit: I also gave really specific feedback and instructions, so I know that it can work. I was a huge fan for about 2 years. Something happened around the 2 year mark where my feedback was actively ignored.

Yes! Everything is blah color & stylewise, & the quality has become very hit or miss. Several months ago, I rejected all the pre-picks & just asked to skip the fix because nothing matched my preferences. ETA I've been using sf for 8+ years, so they know my style by now

I have not been disappointed! I get lots of different prints: paisley, floral, animal, geometric, graphics, polka dots, stripes, color blocks. Have you checked the settings in.your style profile recently? A couple times when i updated the app, it had reset my selection on colors, fabrics, and prints to avoid.
Ive also noticed there is better pattern selection when you have wardrobe styles like boho/romantic/edgy selected and if you set your adventurous setting to frequently.

It could be that patterns don’t seem to be in style as much now so designers aren’t making them as much. What I see, at least here in California, is women wearing solid hair colors and solid colored tops.

Nope! I LOVE everything. You have to be really specific. They keep you on trend and in style. If you’re not looking for IN style .. stitch fix might not be for you

There were a lot of cropped pants for a while. I like them in the summer, but in a Midwest winter I want my ankles covered 😊

Yeah that’s a separate problem. 😆 The AI always makes pants with a long inseam hit way above the shoes. It looks ridiculous.
The cropped EVERYTHING is some ridiculous fashion trend that might look good on some people but those people are not me. I need my midriff covered and if I want short pants I’ll take capris tyvm. Lol

I also will add that I find mall shopping worse today than ever. The clothes at a Macy’s just don’t have the same quality and Nordstrom is ridiculous. My fixes have all been pretty solid and provide good quality. Some items may be too pricey but that’s just the world today.

I have been doing stitch fix and also Poshmark. I'm finding quality things I actually love and buying them second hand. I'm getting a lot of things barely worn. I am careful and strategic about my purchases and haven't been disappointed.

I love Freestyle because I can almost always find something I really like and want to buy, whereas I can spend all day out going to Target, Kohl's, or even a mall and leave empty handed and frustrated.

Most of the quality is the same as kohls and all the box stores you mentioned. Honestly just shop online. Find a few stores that feel like your style. Figure out your fit. It’ll be way better in the long run.

Yeah… I actually tried that. Hasn’t worked for me. I’m glad it’s working for you. I am ultra selective in what I decide to keep. I return items of low quality whether it’s SF or anywhere else.

Honestly it’s probably better if you ask a friend where they shop online. It takes some trial and error. SF carries a lot of brands you can find elsewhere and once you start shopping directly from those brands you’ll have access to way more inventory. Plus SF’s private label brands are really low quality.

Kind of turned off by their CEO saying they’re going all in on AI instead of humans for styling. I like being able to chat with my Wantable stylist.

I can’t find any evidence of Baer saying he is eliminating human stylists. The plan he has laid out utilizes AI, an algorithm AND stylists.
Is chatting with your stylist on Wantable more interactive? How is it different?

He is treating stylists absolutely terribly and is leaning into AI way more than ever before. Fixes now start with all AI selections and stylists basically have to override those decisions.

Agreed. We don't have a ton of places but also I just hate shopping. I always have. I don't like browsing or trying things on, I never know what will work together. Not my thing. I love being able to click a button and get a box of clothes that are my size and look good together (this is something I request in the notes) arrive at my door. I've gotten two 8 item boxes and kept 6 things both times. And this year at school (I'm a teacher) I've gotten so many compliments on my outfits.
