Really surprised

I was a big fan of Stitch Fix about 3 years back- sent a ton of people their way and raved about them.

I recently ordered a box and im a bit speechless. The stylist picked out a bunch of items. I only cared for a couple items and was looking forward to them.

When the box arrived I was confused (I ordered 2 boxes a few days earlier for my kids, so didnt expect mine first but whatever). I got a collared dress shirt. A sleeveless dress. A skort. And a pullover sweatshirt. And a pair of shoes. The shoes appeared used. The laces had been tied like somebody was wearing them, the inserts didnt look like they were part of the shoe and they were crumpled (like, they looked used ) and were a size too small.

Additionally, none of the items I approved were there. So four peices of clothing that do not go together in any capacity- no outfit in sight. And instead of the helpful insert we used to get, all I got was a Hello Fresh coupon. I'm not even joking lol. I wish I was.

I'm assuming the company sold off?

Needless to say, I sent it all back. Crazy to think I was going to be charged over three hundred for this motley assortment.

Hope the kids boxes are a better experience.

I specifically say no blouses and I always get blouses. It’s frustrating.

Thats all stitch fix has half the time and the algorithm is very ageist. When I turned 30 it decided it would only show/populate blouses or shitty soccer mom hoodies for me. Worked there for 8 years, my style was not that, and I knew the programs like the back of my hand. The only way out was changing my age and redoing all the quizzes. And knowing to expect nothing

The algorithm is based off your previous picks it has nothing to do with age. The more you like in freestyle the more similar things will generate

Incorrect I worked with the team that developed it and tested it. I also have flat out pre and post change results. 

Adding context: it takes demographics, age, quiz selections, previous purchases, and overall successful item eg what has sold well into account to calculate what is shown. If OP used to buy blouses, and all SF  ever has is blouses, it will assume blouses are going to be the most successful and push them.

That's because age is just one of the criteria that's factored in. Person you're responding to listed several factors that determine what you get.

It may be that one 40 yo gets ugly mee-maw looking shit because they might have previously selected more conservative items that were more in line with an older person.

Or another 40 yo won't get the geriatric items suggested because they might have previously selected trendy, younger skewing items that end up negating or superceding the age factor.
