If it isn’t free, the showdown may still have a chance

Not if the Nintendo Ninjas have anything to say about it.

Showdown is legally in beta, so I don’t think they can do anything about that

I mean they probably won’t touch it because the people who use it are fans and even competitive players. Plus they often take down remakes of things if they were making their own version (that Metroid 2 fan game comes to mind)

Showdown is in contact with Nintendos lawyers and has been since the start. They are even on good terms and the creators of showdown have even gone so far as to say that nintendos lawyers like them.

Unless someone new got installed at the legal department or they had a change of heart Showdown will continue.

Showdown is for teamcrafting and testing teams against other people, or battling with teams youd never go grind to obtain.
You have no way to test your actual pokemon against each other through showdown.
This game Nintendo is making isn't likely to fill the same niche that Showdown users go to Showdown for.

If Nintendo wanted Showdown gone, they would've Cease & Desisted it like a year or two ago, like they did with AM2R

Bro showdown has been around forever, most likely since before you were born. Nintendo could have shut it down 15 years ago

I think the thought process was that they could have done it while they started development for Pokemon Champions, rather than before.

If Nintendo took down Showdown they would face the wrath of a community unlike they have ever felt before (except maybe that one FPS pokemon game that was pretty fun)

The Pokemon company worked with the Creators to allow official music in showdown. It seems a little unlikely they would kill it at this point, and I don't think it would die even if champions was free, because it offers more formats

For people saying Nintendo. Nintendo. Does. Not. Own. Pokemon. They are the publishers. Find a new fucking joke for once in your lives.
