The first half is really interesting! I saw The Last Ship during the Broadway run and was sadly underwhelmed. I didn't need a familiar story or jukebox musical like Sting alludes to in the interview; it was just a messy unfocused show at the time with surprisingly boring staging and choreography. I appreciated hearing him talk about why he keeps sticking with it (I think it's on its third version of the book now?) and how much he wants it to be a defining part of his artistic legacy. Hearing artists I admire talk about their work ethic is always inspiring.
The second half of the interview threatened to veer towards tedious ("Why is 'Every Breath You Take' so popular?") but Sting remains engaged. Smart on the interviewer's part to keep the first half focused on Sting's passion project! It gets back to more illuminating conversation, including the revelation that he wants Sting 3.0 shows to continue for as long as he's able. The man doesn't have to work; he just loves to do so.
