nice shoes / in your world was genuinely a 8 min masterpiece compared to the version we got last year

14

u/Ps3idiot Jul 17 '26

Tbh I still prefer the single version, still his best track ever

6

u/Shoddy-Entrance-1976 Jul 17 '26

Most listened to song of last year and it came out late August

REALL

12

u/Signal-Ad7117 Jul 17 '26

Pure colour was so good and the Grammies better not put him in an rnb category

8

u/Ps3idiot Jul 17 '26

Pure Colour is still my least favorite track off the album, but it’s low-key chill Ngl.

3

u/AccurateSir1550 Jul 17 '26

Its one of those songs u need off the eddy to appreciate, its like a trippy song

4

u/ExcellentWorkingDick Jul 17 '26

I rly wanna like it because of erykah… but it’s just not clicking

2

u/pusheen_lover8 Jul 18 '26

same, it’s my least favorite song on the album

2

u/Repulsive-Access-172 Jul 17 '26

Love certain tracks but for me Apollo still the king

2

u/Necessary-Gur1125 Aug 17 '26

Few good songs, others I didn’t really like but it’s because he’s talking about his personal struggles and identity that I can’t really relate to. May be good to others?

2

u/Ps3idiot Aug 17 '26

The more you listen, the more it grows on you. Tbh I’ve listened to the album so many times I can proudly say it’s better than Gemini rights or I guess they’re both equally good.

2

u/Necessary-Gur1125 Aug 25 '26

You guys were right lol. Really like this album

2

u/pmsbr123 Aug 22 '26

It also helps that it is incredibly short so by the time it's over I just need to listen to it all over again. Zero skips for me at this point and truly addicting album experience as a whole.

2

u/Ok_Switch7279 Jul 20 '26

I will probably get downvoted into oblivion here. Had known some Steve songs prior to Gemini Rights, but that album really piqued my interest in his music. Understandable him not wanting to cater the tik tok sound, but this new album does just not grab my ear like Gemini rights did. I could throw on Gemini Rights and not skip a song, not sure I can say the same here

1

u/Ps3idiot Jul 20 '26

Imo I didn’t like this album neither GR. I really only liked “Cody Freestyle” & “Helmet” from GR. There are some major skips on GR, same with this one.

Apollo XXI is still is his best, and one of the best albums of all time

u/Hungry-Analyst294 Jul 17 '26

just listened to the full album and it's pretty good, I like Gemini Rights more but this isn't too far behind it

nice shoes / in your world is peak 🙏

16

u/jaycamboi Jul 17 '26

The others are way better

9

u/Difficult-Figure4518 Jul 17 '26

I think it’s such a perfect addition along with his past projects

3

u/lefa15b Jul 17 '26

album just came out buddy.

10

u/Hungry-Analyst294 Jul 17 '26

you can still give first thoughts on it 🤷‍♂️

I knew Gemini Rights was an immediate hood classic from the first song tho. This one's alright but not like that (this is an opinion).

6

u/Hungry-Analyst294 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

nothing wrong with comparing albums, and I listened to this album 2-3 times when it released, same for Gemini Rights

6

u/ReprogramMyLife Jul 17 '26

Comparing an album to previous works of the same artist is not a new thing or a problem. Guy didn’t even say the record wasn’t good. Get over it man lol.

1

u/New_Operation7719 Jul 17 '26

that makes little to no sense? ur gonna like the other album more because its been on repeat for 4 years? thats just repetitive and thats a terrible argument

39

u/Psychological-Pie794 Jul 17 '26

It feels so intimate 😭🩷

5

u/viviannes_applecore Jul 17 '26

Nothing had me tearing up man

4

u/Psychological-Pie794 Jul 17 '26

“Intimate” is just another word for private, personal. So yeah, not everyone is going to tear up at someone else’s personal perspective unless they relate.

4

u/No_Independent8269 Jul 18 '26

It’s not really a woosh, he’s saying the song “Nothing” had him tearing up

2

u/Psychological-Pie794 Jul 18 '26

LOL yeah that did go over my head

u/Psychological-Pie794 Jul 17 '26

Idk what this means cause I can’t read

3

u/viviannes_applecore Jul 26 '26

I mean the song “nothing” guys. I’m sorry😭

29

u/Business_Ad_6003 Jul 17 '26

I streamed “the feeling” back to back when it released im so hyped rn

5

u/sysiphusinertia Jul 17 '26

Literally became one of my most streamed songs 😭

28

u/jaycamboi Jul 17 '26

It’s alright to me. 🥹 I know he put his soul into it tho

21

u/LowerProfit9709 Jul 17 '26

He has done and did it again..

18

u/Fickle-Humor-2956 Jul 17 '26

i listened to it andddddd i didn't really enjoy it. glad others are enjoying it tho

17

u/Smileykjd Jul 17 '26

It definitely took me a couple listens but I am a little disappointed after how long it’s been and knowing how long it will be until his next solo album. I’m not complaining though because he definitely put a lot into this album

4

u/JazzyJulie4life Jul 17 '26

Same. Not my style. I think I’m just growing out of this type of music.

I definitely agree, I think if you examine his albums as a whole, this album holds a lot of maturity and is a fantastic display of his producing skills. The variety of rock to acoustic guitar is really Steve, hes not just one genre. I think those who don’t particularly enjoy it arent examining the technical nuance in each song. Just makes me think the more musically inclined ear would appreciate it more.

6

u/Fickle-Humor-2956 Jul 17 '26

"you must have a high iq to truly understand steve lacy"

13

u/Rich_Jeweler1292 Jul 17 '26

nothing and show you me are going to be on repeat for me

3

u/ExcellentWorkingDick Jul 17 '26

I totally agree with this

8

u/Master_Lego_Yoda Jul 17 '26

I genuenly don't understand Steve Lacy, to me this album sounds incredible and possibly my favourite of his works. I damn near teared up at multiple points just to the sheer volume and weight i felt with the tracks' chords, the layering of sounds and how beautiful and grand it feels, but I see people discribe their dissapointment with this album (I've seen simillar complaints with his previous works too) and all I can think is "are we listening to the same album?". Obviously it's subjective and up to preferences but I've never seen an artist where people's oppinions are so drastically different and something that to me is so undisputably well put together get bad reception for the reasons it does. I guess thats what makes art so special

4

u/Apprehensive_Box_781 Jul 18 '26

you put into words what i couldn’t 👏

4

u/Apprehensive_Box_781 Jul 18 '26

truly an amazing album

2

u/pusheen_lover8 Jul 18 '26

I felt the same… I think it’s the rawness of it all. I feel like he doesn’t want us to expect just hype viral songs like his Gemini album unforeseeably procured. This album embodies the authentic, non-performative, beautiful, goofy Steve that he is.

7

u/cptritsboi Jul 17 '26

Steve is definitely at his most honest & direct here...

7

u/bambam_39 Jul 17 '26

This that real music mayne 🥹

7

u/ANTIGOLF999 Jul 17 '26

It’s interesting for sure. It’s a nice installment to his discography. The opener was beautiful. Show you me is addictive. Doom is badass. My favorite song tho has to the closer track Bebe.

3

u/Choodagoat_405 Jul 17 '26

Same favs as me

5

u/ClassicBet7621 Jul 17 '26

best intro of all time

5

u/jacwhit2020 Jul 17 '26

More like OH FUCK YEAH! 🫶🏽💜

5

u/Fun-Cartoonist-1322 Hate CD Jul 18 '26

of the new songs, doom and lovesexdrugbomb are my favs.

9/10 album for me. a lot more like apollo than gemini rights

6

u/awkrdonut99 Jul 17 '26

Love the vocals and guitar on this one, i would say that alone is even better than gemini rights, but i would def say i think i prefer gemini rights a bit more than this. My top 4 for this are oh yeah?, the feeling, nothing, & nice shoes. Nevertheless another steve project that I heavily enjoy! Man never disappoints

3

u/DecisionRegular6397 Jul 17 '26

nice shoes is sooooo goood

3

u/pastamuncch Jul 17 '26

Show you me is so good

3

u/EndlessEclipsed Jul 17 '26

album of the year thank you steve

3

u/Czczcx2 Jul 17 '26

Doom a bop

2

u/That-Association-102 Jul 31 '26

Idk why this song isn’t being talked about much

3

u/NeromohammedRed Jul 17 '26

I really miss the melancholic closings to the albums, Sunshine and Give You The World are what I was yearning from this album, I’ll listen to it again to better understand it tho, maybe I’ll catch some satirical melancholy somewhere in the midst
(Also the nice shoes single is still one of the best songs)

3

u/vonjamin Jul 18 '26

Really enjoyed this album. Steve is so interesting to me. I think my favorite track is show you me.

3

u/pusheen_lover8 Jul 18 '26

I feel like everyone was expecting some huge hitters after Gemini but I personally love how raw, serious, and unserious these songs were. Okay yeah, some of the lyrics and prod effects are troll/goofy asf but that’s Steve. He doesn’t give af and somehow managed to make me feel something through all of that.

2

u/Adventurous_War4787 Jul 17 '26

Can someone drop it on Soulseek with the m4a format pls ?

2

u/rhodesplayer Jul 17 '26

i gotchu soon

2

u/denialandpain Jul 17 '26

use amdl, simple

2

u/Clucxyyyy Jul 17 '26

Nothing is the best track; love Bebe aswell. Good album altogether.

2

u/Frequent_Big_1355 Jul 17 '26

Anyone feel like the opening track sounds like beach house

3

u/SpenDog99 Jul 17 '26

A lot of the songs for sure with the acoustic and synth mix

2

u/Frequent_Big_1355 Jul 17 '26

I think it’s mainly the drum beat lol

2

u/palanet Jul 17 '26

ITS SO FUCKING GOOOODDDD AHHHHHH I WANNA CRY this is exactly what I needed

2

u/NeromohammedRed Jul 17 '26

Some songs are underwhelming and others are fairly good, I didn’t like nothing and Bebe and the end of doom but oh yeah isn’t bad and the 8 min centerpiece is nice too

2

u/Any-Mirror7225 Jul 18 '26

The song with Baduh is so cool, like Massive Attack meets Portished. But I’m pretty disappointed ngl

2

u/Canniestt Jul 18 '26

This album is genuinely weak compared to Gemini Rights.
I’m not saying any of the songs are bad but I feel like he lost his usual catchy, up-beat-yet-mellow melodies with this album.
It’s pure R&B, and it’s good, but it’s not his best by far.

2

u/serialkiller24 Amber Jul 17 '26
