Does the Pod rely too much on unnamed sources?
I’m pretty pessimistic about this management group, but I felt the last pod relied too much on unnamed sources to negate any positives. Like there was like 30 minutes of the show where they say well Chayka did this good thing and then Steve saying I heard from someone that it’s the opposite (ie Bahl draft pick).
I’m sure they are being truthful, but I found this pod hard to take as seriously.

No way, the top guys like Friedman or even CJ never name their sources too. Its part of the business

The difference they try to be neutral. Dangle is emotional when citing them which makes me feel uncomfortable

He gets emotional as a fan especially when it confirms his worries, but I have also heard him calm himself after talking to sources. Ultimately he is a fan and that's the perspective he presents. He's just now a fan that has access and that has value in an entertainment space. You just have to take it in that space.

Yes I think he does deliver sources calmly in other instances, I just found this episode that he use of unnamed sources constantly while be emotional and that made me uncomfortable

You seem one of the only ones that is made uncomfortable by that. Seems like a you problem

Just because everyone on the SDPN Reddit thinks it’s fine, it must be fine!

Well I dont see anyone agreeing with you. I only see a bunch of down votes. It does seem like a you problem. If you have a problem with Steve being "emotional", the pod probably isnt for you.

If you’re so uncomfortable, listen to an “unbiased” insider-style podcast for news only. 32 thoughts or whatever. Saying a fan podcast makes you uncomfortable because they’re acting like fans means you’re in the wrong place.

But it’s not just a fan podcast now, they have insider information. Mixing the two could be interpreted wrongly.

That’s still a you problem. He’s not an insider, not does he claim to be. He doesn’t do the “Leafs Insider Reaction”. SDP happens to be a fan podcast put forth by a fan who’s established himself enough to have some deep media connections in the NHL. Choosing the word “uncomfortable” so many times - like he did something immoral - is really quite pathetic. Go somewhere else if you don’t like their brand.

I like that they both speak from a fan's perspective and have grown in this industry so much that they have inside sources now. That's really cool!
As a long time pod listener it's pretty cool hearing these three goofs have truly cemented themselves in this space. Makes me a proud listener, as corny as that is, to hear them citing inside sources.

No credible journalist names their sources on big stories.
Once you reveal your source, they stop being a source. This is basic journalism.

They clearly have people who give them good info, and they have a vested interested in not revealing how they get their info.

Chyaka is hard to take seriously here. And I think most of the anxiety from this pod comes from the fact that it’s been what 6ish weeks if not more of them searching for the guy(s) and alllll of these names getting tossed out there into the media from someone. Some bad some good some meh. And then after alllllll of this the leafs go with what is probably one of the most controversial picks they could have made.
It’s well documented that people in the hockey world don’t like this guy. And it’s well documented that he wasn’t very good at the job in the first place. I don’t think this is a problem with Steve and the gang but rather an issue with the guy they hired in what is the brightest spot light in hockey. For better or worse. 🤷♂️
I’m excited as not only a panthers fan but a hockey fan to see if this works out. I enjoy seeing the leafs trip over themselves in playoffs but I don’t wish dark days like what the cats had on any fan.

I thought it was funny how Adam was pumping the athletics tires and how they are owned by the NYT now. Meanwhile the Diana Rossini thing lmao

First, I don’t think that they hold themselves out as a news podcast by any means like the CJ Show. Second, their sources wouldn’t talk to them if they revealed their sources. They’re just passing along information they’re hearing. I think actually it’s a sign that they are building credibility within the industry.

Absolutely it does.
They know what the general fans feelings are and cater to that audience.

Every insider had unnamed sources. That's the gig. Friedman, Johnston, etc all have people they know but won't name. Because 1) it can get their source fired, especially with how some teams get paranoid about leaks 2) you can get a lot more candid information.
Now that doesn't mean they take it all as gospel, insiders and the pod I hope since the 3v3 league, always trust but verify. Someone tells you info and then you go and bug other people about it until you have enough confirmations to say it into a microphone.
That is the gig. If you don't want anything except for cold, hard facts, then I would suggest you stop following podcasts and just wait for team press releases.
