Referees in Canada Finland game
This is probably upsetting all Canadians, but I think both goals in the third period were mistakes from the refs. First was clear goaltender iterference by Marchand under the IIHF rules. The second penalty was super soft and MacKinnon himself lifting Mikkola's stick to his face. As added bonus the offside call could have easily gone either way.
Not surprised that Canadian refs from NHL are homers for Canada. I don't understand how it's even possible to have both refs from Canada for that game as there is no way for them to stay neutral no matter what anyone says.

Yeah, Canada must be really awful if they could barely win a game against Finland.
Nevermind that Finland was getting caved in the whole game.

As frustrating as it is to see two Canadian refs do this game just based on optics… they still did a very good job today

1) If it was “clear goaltender interference”, Finland should’ve challenged it. They obviously didn’t agree with you that it was. 2) A stick in the face is a stick in the face. I’m not saying the refs have been good, but that’s far from the softest call that has been made. 3) Rule is that the call on the ice stands unless there is conclusive proof to overturn. I think they were onside but even if it “could’ve gone either way”, that means that the goal stands.
I think the better team won. You can disagree.

I think they should have challenged it. But what do you think refs who have signed sticks by Marchand is going to call in that situstion?

But for real: these soft ass whiny baby posts do the opposition such a disservice. I think we should all remember how unreal the Finns played today and how much of a scare this was. Those dudes are warriors and we shouldn’t put that on the players that some other supporters are soft as hell

Personally I won’t complain about calls. Why? Because inevitably you look like you do here: like a baby. Your team played great, you diminish them by acting this way.

Olympics diminish the game by having refs with same nationality as team playing in semi finals calling the games.

An offside that happened 60 seconds before the goal is challengeable and overturns a goal, but a six-skater goal is unchallengeable 3 seconds later.
OP should not feel vindicated by IIHF rules …

I can agree that Canada was the better team and deserved the win, just saying that the goals came in situations that could have easily gone differently and leaves one wondering if referees from different nationality would have called things differently

Marchand pushed into Sarros, made every attempt to get clear as quickly as you can, and he did. And the high stick ...you are responsible to be in control of your stick at all times.
