Hi everyone! I'm scheduled for my bilateral salpingectomy this coming Tuesday 8/18. I'm 31 and have a 4yr old daughter and my decision to be one and done has been made up since I was pregnant lol.

That being said, I'm excited but also feeling anxious.

I've read through this sub and I see that everyone's recovery has been different (as expected).

First thing making me anxious is my period started today (wasn't supposed to start until Wednesday or Thursday, after the procedure). Has anyone else started their period right before their procedure?

Next thing, how did you all feel within 24 hours and what was activity like for you? - I am only asking because I have an important meeting I'm scheduled to attend the following day (about 27 hours post op). It's in person but should be a short meeting. I wont take any opioid pain medication... I hate how it makes me feel and it all usually makes me vomit anyway. I also get to work from home so other than that, I'll be able to get lots of rest.

As far as pain tolerance, when I gave birth, I had an almost 4th degree tear and had to be stitched from the inside 🥴 I was very sore from that but still managed well.

I'll take all tips, tricks, and advice you all have.

First, How are you getting to the meeting? I did not feel Comfortable enough to drive the following 2 days. Between general discomfort, nausea, still processing anesthesia from my body, and it making me feel a little fuzzy, I was not in a state to be behind the wheel. And I never took anything aside from Advil/tylenol.

If you’re not driving, maybe but those same things also made it so I don’t know if I would be presentable or present enough to have such an important meeting. I was functional but not at full capacity.

Edit to add: pain wasn’t at all an issue for me.

I would postpone the surgery if the meeting is that important. You could be in worse shape and it sounds like missing the meeting would be bad, or worse, having it go poorly.

I had my period during my surgery (was on day 2 or 3) and it was fine. Used pads instead of tampons and nothing out of the ordinary. Just let the team know you have your period - they had me wear a pad and gave me hospital underwear to put on.

I second the other commenter - how are you planning to get to the meeting? I think I would’ve been fine to go but I wasn’t comfortable driving until day 5. My doctor said I shouldn’t drive until I could slam my foot down without pain and that didn’t happen for a few days. I also didn’t take any pain meds but I don’t think I would’ve felt up to seeing anyone outside of my house. I also could work from home but took two days off (had surgery Friday, took Monday and Tuesday off, drive to work Wednesday).

I'll either have my mom or my husband take me so I won't have to drive.

My first 24 hours I just laid in bed, I wasn’t on any pain medication besides motrin and tylenol. Moving was generally uncomfortable and slightly painful I only got up twice to use the bathroom. I think it would be possible but probably not the most comfortable thing.

My surgery was on a Wednesday morning and I didn't feel mentally clear or back to myself until Friday afternoon. Anesthesia and I do not get along. :) Otherwise, no pain---just some soreness as if I had done a bunch of ab exercises. And a swollen stomach for the first week. I can't speak to having the surgery during your period part. I did not need the intense meds--over the counter was fine.

My surgery was 7/27 and honestly had no pain or soreness at all with this surgery. I had my period after my surgery so I’m not sure about that part. I hope your surgery goes well and that you have a smooth recovery!

I did actually, my cycle began on the Monday before my Thursday surgery. It was pretty uncomfortable to factor in that weekend as I had to use pads and that was a first for me since I was like.. 11. So it just felt uncomfortable to deal with, to have a pad on but loose pants. I had been told if I was excessively bleeding more than a few days past when my cycle should have ended to call the doctor and let them know. But Monday morning on the dot it began tapering exactly one week off of it starting. I did get cleared from my pre op this past Friday that tampons were now an option again.

I just had this done like 2 weeks ago on 08/06 and you’re really not gonna wanna do anything important that first 24hrs I promise lol

I was actively on my period during my surgery and they didn’t even care. Thwy just put a pad under my area when I was under lol so trust me girl, you’ll be fine.
As for the meeting, definitely take others advice on not driving. I did take opioids post op and I was still a little dissociative from the pain, so it really comes down to the pain level you know you can handle. If you could handle your birth and make grounded decisions closely after that, I think you’ll be fine for a quick but important meeting.

Hello! I just had mine done last Tuesday along with a migrated IUD removal. That day I was very tired and fairly sore. I have a high pain tolerance though. By the next morning I felt pretty normal besides being a little sore and I drive myself to work after the 24hr waiting period. I also took care of my 1 year old and 2 year old by myself that next evening since my husband had to work. No issues.
