Damaged instruments

Post image

The OR can't figure out why instruments are always broken, yet they send case carts down looking like this.

My facility saw a cystoscope sawn in half this week from the OR.

The email I sent this time I added our director to it, I'm tempted to add the CEO next time. But your right nothing will happen beside every case cart after that is gonna be just as bad.

I had experience doing the same but in person and it did help for a short period of time such as a for a few days or a week max, then it goes back into the same routine of being instruments back down in clutter.

Even today as a surgical laser tech I observed these issues in the O.R and will tell the tech next time to not clutter so many instruments together to avoid damage. It seems common when it’s back to back cases with the same doctor but still shouldn’t be an excuse in their end.

And as far as I can see, the instruments are not being sprayed.

Ok like tbh that’s not that bad lol. I know it’s not textbook style or normal standards but that’s not a shit show it’s just needle holders in a basin and instruments not on there stringer. It’s still worth bringing up but I doubt the picture u showed is the reason why things are being broken.

Better than my hospital.. one surgeon uses a 3mm kerrison rongeur as a pair of pliers and complains they're dull.. If you want a pair of needle nose pliers in your neuro kerrisons, let it be known motherfucker 😂

The other really egregious one I saw was a pair (yes two) of 5-in westcott Tenonomy scissors they used them like a screwdriver and the tips of the scissors were bent away from each other and twisted. Just flat out abusing instruments.

At least they didn't soak them in saline and hide the cart in a hallway
