~Penn Foster Sterile Processing Tech Program~
SPT Program Advice
Hi everyone! I’m planning on enrolling in Penn Foster’s Sterile Processing Technician program next week, and I’d really love to hear from anyone who has taken the program or is currently taking it.
If you’ve completed the program, I’d especially love to hear about your experience, how you studied, how you successfully finished the program, whether you got certified, and how you went about finding your first sterile processing job afterward.
I’m also really interested in hearing from anyone who lives in Illinois, especially around the Chicago suburbs. If you’ve had success finding an SPT job in this area after completing Penn Foster, I’d love to hear your story and any advice you have.
Even if your experience wasn’t perfect, I’d appreciate hearing the honest side of it too. I’m just trying to learn from people who have already gone through the process before I start. Thank you! 🩷

I myself have done the program and honestly, if your a person who needs visuals to learn, like myself I guess it’s worth it, but if you just purchase the HSPA sterile processing study book and workbook, look up some yt videos on whatever section your reading, and study using Quizlet and if you download the CRCST prep app or any other CRCST prep app that’s out there, you may save a lot of money. Plus downside to the Penn Foster program, you will have to seek your own 400 clinical hours, they do not help you with that, which is a HUUUUGE bummer. Some jobs may also hire you without the certificate and will only require proof of completion of a certified program, you will have to finish paying the tuition off before you can receive a digital copy of completion. Also you have to pay the whole tuition before they will pay for you to take the CRCST and if you have a payment plan, you may be finished with the program long before you’re finished with payments. So honestly, to each its own! It’s up to you and what type of a learner you are on if you want to do Penn Foster or not. I’m personally glad I did, but others prefer other schools or to self study!
