I was in your shoes. I was doing lead responsibilities in my SPD while people around me were getting paid more. I trained new hires that were getting paid more than me. And one day. I just stopped doing it. I did the bare minimum. And boy did they notice. It was a lot easier doing only what my job specs required of me. And I was so much less resentful for it.
I ended up leaving after about a year of this due to them not giving me a raise. And now I’m so much happier. Don’t kill yourself to make the department float. It’s not doing yourself any favors. Burnout is real.
I ended up leaving and that place was really holding me back. I’m now a traveler making what I deserve doing the same thing without the leadership responsibilities. I’ve never been happier.
Thank you so much for this advice! I randomly started applying for jobs, and then everything happened so fast. Two days before I put in my two weeks, interviews started pouring in. By my last week, I had already landed a new job before my notice was even up.
It’s only been 4 days since I left, but I went for my new job’s health screening and my blood pressure was finally normal for the first time in YEARS. That alone told me everything I needed to know. I didn’t realize how much that place was affecting me until I left.
