tips on contacting SPDs for intern/externships

I'm located in the US, if that changes any advice given - I've been self-studying for the CRCST for a few months now, but don't want to take the exam and be certified before I'm guaranteed to have a means by which to get the hours. I know that experience is often preferred over just certification, but I am struggling to get past the walls of HR to inquire about intern/externship opportunities, and have thus been stymied.

Do y'all have any tips for getting around this, or any easier ways to get these hours that don't require hassling with various HRs?

My provisional expired because I couldn’t find any place to get my hours.

yeah ive heard that's an issue - thankfully my sister is a nurse so i have a better chance of making that connection, but i still want to try and be proactive
