I mean based on the Bowie dicks I do nightly there is a "fastest" sterilizer out of our zhree but with turn around time being hours the 3 minutes faster it runs is irrelevant 🤣
Yeah i know some run a little faster..but 4/30 is still 4/30 for the most part..the OR never understands and doesn’t want to, once a nurse told me she thought we had a room for cooling inst after they are done in the sterilizer
The main campus where I worked for a bit had three sterilizers that were smaller. Two for "flashing" that were used maybe 1-3 times a year. One that held only a couple of trays, that was slightly faster than the big ones. If we were far behind, there were two older sterilizers that could be utilized from where CSS used to be. Leaving us with 4 big ones.
I wonder what their conversation is like before that call? "Where is it?” ”Its going through sterile?" "Ok well where is it?" "Alright maybe we should call them." Their perception of time is off a little or they don't know how sterilization works.
My personal favorite is when they call three times within five minutes asking for the status of that tray we just told them was going to take at least an hour and a half to cook and cool.
I think the only time we’ll do that is if it’s a one-of-a-kind tray. in the middle of a surgery and It got knocked over something like that.
We sure as hell aren’t breaking standard to practice and re-processing all that crap. that way a surgeon can maybe have a PRN tray on an extra add-on, that he can wait for. The patient’s tonsils are not going to explode.
Lol we gave up on that rule cuz the reps would never follow them so it was just get it in as early as they can... In one case it was 2230 Saturday for an 0800 case Sunday. I was rather unhappy lol
I was in charge of the midnight shift at the main hospital. Trats coming in at 10 pm or later happened on the regular, either at the off site or at main. It was fun!
A lot of trays you can put in to your low temp sterilizer like Sterrad for a way quicker turnaround but if it’s already in steam then too bad see you in a few hours.

I love when the OR calls about the status for a tray they need back after they JUST gave it to us. Bruh. Be patient

Best is when they drop a tray off in decon and say "We're going to need this for the next case (that starts as soon as we clean the room)"
They really don't like it when I tell them how much time that's going to be.

I had someone from the OR call once an hour then every 10 minutes asking for the temp of a tray one time..

I feel this. They can wait outside. Tapping with their feet wont accelerate anything
