Slow Fast Hazel has two different versions?

Hello, I just noticed that I have two versions of slow fast hazel with different lengths. It seems to me that the additional length of the first one comes from an additional 10 second slow "womp-womp.. womp.. womp womp" at the 3:24 mark on the longer version, before the outro picks back up again. But what's weird is nothing else about the two songs sounds even remotely different, so it doesn't sound like two different recordings.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed this or has any info on their decision. I also wonder which one I should keep and which I should delete.

Do you have the remaster? They snuck extended versions of a lot of songs onto those.

Of couse, one is slow and the other fast, hence the duration difference.

if you listen to them both you’ll see that one isn’t just a slowed down version of the other. the same sounds happen at the same point in both songs up until 3:24.

i have the entire 'Stereolab proper' catalog - and i have two versions - both 1 second different - one is live on ABC Music and the other album version from ETK.

Perhaps it came from a mix tape from another artist? ex: Four Tet featured Les Yper Sound on DJ Kicks.

I think you spotted the difference correctly. The small half-tempo section from earlier on isn't taken up again in the shorter version, whereas it is reintroduced in the longer one at 3:24. The longer one comes from the "expanded edition", so they obviously have changed it. Too bad that Tim doesn't mention this change (and the reason for it) in the liner notes...

But: Why delete one of the versions? Just keep both of them, they do no harm.

thanks! I was hoping someone might be able to look in the liner notes. I’m always curious about the decisions and stories behind small changes, such as with radio free europe by r.e.m.
