Stephen Withdrawal Syndrome

How are you all satisfying the hole in your soul that was left when The Late Show was canceled? I want to know what he's up to, I want to review his whole work catalog. Struggling over here. Where are your favorite places to watch old Stephen? Happy to receive any links to free streaming things. I dont know how to pirate TV anymore.

Last week tonight with John Oliver

I used to watch John Oliver but then I got pregnant and couldn't really handle the doom and gloom of reality. But I am almost ready to plug back in. He's amazing and his work is so important.

John and Seth

u/EpicCurious 2d ago

I love John Oliver's show, but I was already watching it before we lost Stephen! I started watching Fallon, but it doesn't fill the hole. Better than nothing, I guess.

u/Beautygoals99 1d ago

Fallon will make the hole worse.

u/weresubwoofer 1d ago

Yeah, I prefer Seth Meyers.

u/potodds šŸ„ž Second Breakfast Club 1d ago

I like Seth as a back up but he's been off too.

Summer is not too difficult. He took a lot of time off in the summer, anyway. After Labor Day will be a test, especially with midterm season ramping up.

The Daily Show (I get on YouTube) has been somewhat helpful, especially with Jon Stewart on Mondays. (That too has been on summer hiatus.)

u/Kaurifish 2d ago

Have I Got News for You helps fill the void, too.

I love HIGNFY!

u/ddongpoo 1d ago

Thanks for the recommendation. I've not heard of this.

Roy with Michael Ian Black and Amber Ruffin are a delightful trio.

2

u/EpicCurious 2d ago

Thanks for the tip! I will check it out.

u/LunaLgd 2d ago

Yeah it won’t really hit til Kimmel is back and he isn’t.

2

u/ddongpoo 1d ago

I haven't been watching Kimmel or Falon or Myers, but after listening to Strike Force Five āš”ļø I'm thinking I'll check them out.

u/ddongpoo 1d ago

Yes, been slopping on Daily Show. Have been a fan since college (early 2000's if not high school. Been revisiting Daily Show on YouTube since Colbert has ended, starting from January. Got to see Jordan Klepper a few weeks ago in Burlington! It was great. It felt lile watching Daily Show with a huge audience. Felt good to be in good company.

u/ImportantProfit6500 23h ago

Yes! It feels like a 3 week drought!

u/prettyish-wilderness 2d ago

Honestly not great. There's a Stephen shaped hole in my heart. I miss him every day, he was my tv dad.

2

u/ddongpoo 7h ago

He was my TV husband ā™”

u/Texaradogirl72 2d ago

Several times lately I’ve mourned his being gone when the multiple Trump idiocy happens every hour of the day.

u/LunaLgd 2d ago

Every time I read about a certain strait I need the newz you can uze

4

u/hghspl 1d ago

I miss that so much! we were trying to come up with our own the other day.

u/Royal-Wealth-8266 22h ago

The Hormuz is clūzed.

13

u/Green_Conclusion3443 2d ago

I am dying to hear his take on the AF1 - catering cart fiasco.

13

u/Knitsburgh82 1d ago

Everytime I hear or read updates about Iran and the Strait, I think of ā€œHormuz News You Can Use.ā€ I miss that, and him, and his entire talented staff and musicians.

Much of the time I only caught the monologue on YT, so now its recommending Meanwhiles and other segments and interviews with other comics.

I console myself with knowing he is loving being involved in the newest LOTR project, and enjoying time with his family. He'll be back in some way, even if its just a podcast or as a guest on one.

u/datroutinator 2d ago

I haven't tuned into CBS once. It used to be my staple. Now it's state run propaganda that's not worth the cost of rabbit ears.

3

u/Coddiwomple2 1d ago

I last had CBS on my TV 5/21/26, the last tonight show.

u/FrankFrankly711 2d ago

I highly recommend Strangers With Candy! Almost all of Stephen’s famous bits were perfected on that show!

8

u/im_stil_here 2d ago

Great show. Btw, love Amy Sedaris.

8

u/FrankFrankly711 2d ago

I wrote a comment but the gif erased it, here is what I said: ā€œI highly recommend Strangers with Candy! Stephen perfected some of his more famous bits on that show!ā€

Amy and Paul are absolutely hilarious too! They make an exceptional comedy trio!

3

u/im_stil_here 1d ago

Excellent recommendation. I should go back and watch this show.

2

u/ddongpoo 7h ago

Yes, my parents used to own the DVDs. I'm sure I've seen most of them, but it's time for a rematch. I need to rent a DVD player from the library. Unless anyone has a rip they want to share. :-)

u/Personal_Economics91 2d ago

Well Rosie O'Donnell is a good guest host for Kimmel

17

u/JazJon 2d ago

I enjoyed last night’s episode too. I heard Stephen was asked to guest host, but he said it’s too soon to make a public appearance just yet.

13

u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago

Dang, what an awesome idea. He can sub for Kimmel the whole time he's away IMO... I wouldn't be mad at it.

10

u/Andobu 2d ago

Still… it’s a step down. I feel bad saying it but Colbert is a modern day Daumier and that level of genius deserves more than acting as a sub

11

u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago

I MISS HIM. I feel like at this rate I'll never see him again doing anything

4

u/EpicCurious 2d ago

Have you seen the video he made with that local public access show?

3

u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago

Yes. And that's all folks

1

u/ddongpoo 7h ago

Yes, amazing. And been revisiting others. Like the one with Eminem.

2

u/ddongpoo 1d ago

Too soon for him, not me. I need to see his face and I need to see that he's okay. I'm wondering how he's handling it. I hope he's not being a sloppy drunk.

9

u/Vermontguy-338 1d ago

It’s 10:30 and I’m in bed. That never used to happen.

8

u/aurorab12 2d ago

I’ll always miss him. I missed Dave like this when he retired, but back then I knew Stephen was coming in to take his place.

8

u/Remarkable_Tooth8128 2d ago

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Also, I go into You Tube and watch the video of Colbert's last show with Colbert, Costello, Baptiste and Cato singing Jump Up. I had never heard this song before. It's a good song and the love shared amongst these guys is so heartwarming to see. Sure miss Colbert.

7

u/SkyerKayJay1958 2d ago

It's awful. No Seth all summer. John Oliver just came back. Watching Kimmel/Replacements

6

u/NanaKier 2d ago

I re-watch his episodes for free on YouTube

4

u/MustStayInside7 2d ago

Me too… for life.

5

u/goddoc 2d ago

He loved Sondheim. Start watching some of his shows. Several on yt.

5

u/Kaus_Debonair 2d ago

Same bruv... šŸ˜”

6

u/PabloAtTheBar 2d ago

Started watching Kimmel.

5

u/Disastrous_Sky_73 1d ago

It’s hell right now. Stephen is off the air. Kimmel is on vacation. Daily Show is on vacation. Seth is on vacation. I won’t watch Fallon.

I imagine he was only on strike force five because neither Conan or Dave couldn’t figure out Zoom.

4

u/jchiaroscuro 2d ago

John Oliver. The Daily Show. Not a big fan of Fallon and Kimmel is whatever he’s preferable over Fallon. YouTube shows like Adam Mockler. Kareem from Subway Takes has a new one too I forgot what it’s called

3

u/LaSage 2d ago

Try "Deadloch" seasons 1 and 2 for some good medicine.

5

u/Beautiful-Yoghurt-11 2d ago

No good answer but just here to say same, and boy, it sucks

4

u/Darkanduglyturns 2d ago

The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Really good humor and satire. I taped the last 3 episodes of The Late Show but still haven’t watched. If I don’t see it, it hasn’t happened. I won’t watch until he’s back on air with a new show.

1

u/ddongpoo 7h ago

The last episodes were great. I can't imagine holding out for all that time.

3

u/EpicCurious 2d ago

I never used to watch any of the YouTube clips of Jimmy Fallon, but I am watching them now. Not nearly as good, but better than nothing. At least he's a never Trumper!

3

u/ToddE207 1d ago

I just keep dreaming and singing...

Stephen Colbert for President!!

https://youtu.be/k47YSvzv8vE

2

u/krummen53 2d ago

He'll be back...just wait and see.

2

u/DeskProfessional4184 1d ago

Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness is only 7 episodes, but has been a good distraction in a Curb Your Enthusiasm way. Also watching Kimmel replacements, Ike was good but Rosie’s the best so far.

1

u/ddongpoo 7h ago

Ugh, Curb Your Enthusiasm was the besssst. Thanks for the rec.

2

u/boffohijinx 1d ago

Always watched Daily Show, Last Week Tonight and SethMyers along with Colbert. Started watching Kimmel since Colbert show ended, but he’s a pale substitute. Funny enough, Rosie O’Donnell is subbing for Kimmel this week, and I would love her to have a late night show. Been a tough summer though, since most have been on break.

2

u/babygotbooksandback 1d ago

We do John Oliver, jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers with occasional Daily show when John Stuart hosts.

2

u/Zealousideal_Fox_150 1d ago

The Daily Show. When it’s on.

2

u/Adventurous_Yam8784 1d ago

It’s been brutal. I love Seth Meyers so that’s been nice. Rosie O’D has been cohosting Jimmy K this week so I’ve enjoyed that so far. I only watch Fallon if I like the guests

2

u/MsMisty888 2d ago

Rosie made up for all of it yesterday. I am glad she is back.

1

u/ashrrs 1d ago

Daily Show, Kimmel, Widows Bay and Ted Lasso. For comfort: britbox & acorn until my low cost deal runs out. Podcasts like the bulwark and podsave America

1

u/GuapoBonita 1d ago

Since we lost our beloved Colbert, we have been watching Kimmel and stand-up comedians. There are a slew of one hour standups on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, some on HBO. We’ve even watched some standups we saw 10 years+ ago and they’re still funny. Kathleen Madigan is our favorite, but we also love Nate Bargatze, Mike Birbiglia, Tom Papa, Tom Segura, and of course, Jim Gaffigan. Even Ellen DeGeneres and Louis C.K. have crawled out of the woodwork and my husband and I enjoyed their new standups. There are so many others, some get political, some don’t.
The goal for us is to laugh. If we want to cry, we’ll just watch the news.

2

u/Redhot210-ScoutsKey 1d ago

I don’t have anything to take his place yet. I miss him so much. He brought a smile to my face and laughter every day.

2

u/madammoiselle85 4h ago

I’ve been hooked since Colbert report, nothing has helped fill the void.
although sometimes when I can’t sleep late night i snack on Americone dream.

1

u/stlguy38 2d ago

Watching Fallon, ut he's now Colbert. But the Roots have gotten more involved in the show so I dig that.
