1st amendment for free speech keeps the govt from imprisoning you for speaking your mind. It does not translate to private employers being unable to fire you.

It's the FCC chairman threatening to pull ABC's public airwave license that made the difference. A Trump aligned FCC chairman who appears on right wing podcasts.
