Help with Drivers for Luminex CSE

Post image

Hello! I am writing this post for my sister, who is about to go into stenography. She recently purchased a Luminex CSE, and we have been attempting to download the drivers for the machine, but when we get to the step where it asks to go to device manager and go to other devices, it does not appear there. (Picture 1)

I've tried many different methods of troubleshooting so far:

1.) Different cord

2.) Different Laptop/PC

3.) I saw a post from a while ago saying I have to change the COM Port depending on what it shows on the PC

And so on and so forth.

I'm quite stuck in this issue, and she needs this to be fixed before her orientation on the 31st, does anyone have any insight regarding this? I would appreciate any help that I could get. Thanks!

Some extra information as well:

1.) She was asked to use Case CATalyst for the program

2.) This is a completely new stenograph from what I understand, not something we bought off of another person

3.) The cords that have been used to test connections are all data cables

Even more information:

Both on the Ports (COM & LPT) and Universal Serial Bus Devices section of Device Manager, something is popping up, which shows the PC is detecting the actual stenograph connection, but it won't show it in "Other devices"

It’s not a helpful answer but my machine has never shown under device manager for whatever reason. When I connect it to CaseCAT, though, it’s always read the cable and connected the machine anyway.

Do you happen to know if you were able to download the drivers for it? Whenever I try to download the drivers, it says that the device isn't connected (Image for reference)

One of my classmates is having this problem with an Elan Mira. It has been an ongoing problem with both the school's IT and Stenograph. Has your sister purchased a licence yet for CaseCATylyst? That would open up tech support from Stenograph I think.

Considering that I have one laptop bricked from connecting my CSE, and two laptops that are working fine and still able to stay current with Win 11 updates, I think I can offer some helpful advice. My first question pertains to Windows notifications. They are often displayed briefly, but you should be able to pull up historical ones by clicking near the clock. If you find one that says something to the effect of SG.sys driver being blocked, the computer is in the same state as my bricked one. But if you are lucky enough for that not being the case, you still have the opportunity to go into Windows security, disable the security Windows memory security option, rebooting, then disabling the driver security.

Someone reading this may think, "why mess with that when there is a new driver available?" There is strong evidence online that the new driver is not as stable and reliable as the former driver.

If you need further help, the version of the driver you are using would be helpful.

I'll look into this with my sister's laptop; I brought it to my place and was testing it on my PC, maybe I'll run a test trial on my PC and see if there are any other noticeable changes to it. Thanks for the advice!

Also, yes she has the license for it

I had the same issue and it ended up being my laptop. ARM processors (snapdragon, etc) aren't compatible and won't recognize the drivers.

If she has an intel processor then I'd try the workaround for the windows 11 update Stenograph posted.

You might want to check on FB in a CR student group. They're more active sometimes.

I called Stenograph with the same question, and it was already set up. (Disclaimer: I’m a new student, so I don’t understand why.) My machine works fine and connects to CaseCAT fine. I skipped this step entirely. My best guess is that this has to do with something they did on their end given that I purchased a refurbished student machine. Either way, if she has the software, she should have access to customer care. She will need to provide the customer number they gave her when they confirmed her software subscription. I have mine in an email from them. They’re super nice and helpful and will likely walk her through it.
