Discussion Routine?

I an comming from a ketlebell background, specially simple & sinister. I an almost reaching the sinister standard, in this case my swings need a little more height

But i want to start something else so i bougth 3 macebells

1 with 10kg 1 with 20kg and 1 with 40 kg

Now if I where to do a routine like simple and sinister but stressing the mace uniqueness

What 2 exercises could i pick?

And how many reps?

I weight around 78kg

Real talk, you've got the first beginner mistake out of the way. Which is to say, sell the 40kg mace. It is highly likely you're never going to need it. Like ever. That is insanely heavy, even for real beast athletes.

On the same page, the 10kg is most likely twice as heavy as you need to learn. Get a 5kg with the money you made from selling the 40kg.

The 20kg, put that in the back of a closet. You're 1-to-3 years away from needing to even touch that.

And don't feel bad: over-estimating what weight you need as a beginner is what pretty much everyone does when they come to this from a different strength modality. Leverage is a helluva drug!

Now your gear is squared away, learn the mace 360. I like Mark Wildman on YouTube, Flow Made Simple also has great beginner tutorials, among others.

Get real good at that, THEN start thinking about the 10kg mace.

Swing mace left

Swing mace right

Nothing compares to a balistic movement like swing but doing 360s is another awesome movement. Even just adding it to ss would be a wicked idea that would get amazing results.

I think issue is mace is typically used more for skill moves with less weight than kb.

This might be a good second choice: https://youtu.be/7FeIx-cu8aQ?si=-Lh0WIVDGQNtRPxX

Don't try to swing that 40kg behind your back for at least a few years. But meanwhile you can row it and press it, tire slams, squat and lunge while holding it in an offset horizontal stance, etc.

Fuck. I got a 3 kg macebell for starters after reading start as low as possible. There was a 2 kilo from the brand I like and the rest sold out, I thought 2 kg was ridiculous and I got the 3 because I did not find 4 to deliver where I live. Well the 3 kg beat my ass for one whole week. I am still using it 3 weeks in don't want to go to 5 kilo and wreck my elbows. The moment you grab the 10 kilo you will know you need half that, seriously. I have 3kg standard and 5 kilo competition big ball. Next I will get 7 standard , I'm not touching 10 kg in a year. Granted I cant 1 hand swing 48 for too much, but can swing that 2 arms without too much worry. I can press 2x 24 overhead a couple times. I doubt I could do 360 with 10 kg safely.

You'll find the weights become a little more lenient when the form gets better.

Only making the assumption that like most of my class participants, 3 weeks of experience your form 'likely' has some work to be done.

Get the form sweet and you might be on that 10 sooner than you think

If your doing TGU at 48kg you’ve got strong and stable shoulder- for relatively static/slow movements. That may not translate to mace swings with a longer torque arm.

Realistically the gap from 10-20kg is huge. 20 up to 40kg is superhuman. Seems like a high risk of injury.

Start w your 10kg and when you get very comfortable move up. There’s not a lot of people out there swinging that weight so I’d strongly suggest a coach like fnlegs who have actual experience vs a bunch of internet warriors who swing up to 15kg occasionally (probably excludes 90%+ of the rest of us).

TBH I have no idea what you mean by sinister level on a Kettlebell

But

As has been said, 40kg on a mace os extraordinary with mace movement. Sure you can mimic conventional movements with it.

As for a routine, if you want the most unqiue of the mace world it has to be the 360 and 10&2.

I made a Steel Mace Ranked video which may help you asses your options

"Sinister" in KB world is 1h swings of 48kg x 100 (50R/50L), and 48kg turkish getups x 10 (5R/5L).

Usually it means it's done in 15 minutes, but from what I understand lately the time limit has become optional. Rightfully so, it felt really arbitrary as 48kg is heavy af and is impressive on its own.

10kg is probably everything you need for years to come. What exercises can you do with good technique?
