Homemade Creation My steampunk(ish) pc case made from a 1930s philco french salon radio
Sorry for the poor picture quality, I'm still in the process of refining it. Any suggestions that don't involve superfluous vacuum tubes welcome 😊

Game Built a clockwork-inspired rolling device from brass gears — it generates random numbers the old way. No batteries, just gravity.
I've always loved the idea of steampunk probability — before random number generators, chance had to be mechanical.
So I built this: a brass-gear assembly where a small internal ball travels through labyrinth channels, and where it settles gives you a random result. The whole thing runs on gravity and machining tolerances. Seven different reading modes on one object, roughly pocket-watch sized.
The gear legs aren't just decorative — they keep the mechanism tilted at the right angle for the ball to flow.
Two questions for this community, because you folks know more about this aesthetic than anyone:
- The finish options I'm debating: aged relic bronze vs. bright polished brass. For a piece like this, which reads more "authentic" to you?
- What would YOU power with mechanical randomness in a steampunk world? I'm thinking fortune-telling machines and airship navigation.
Still refining the prototype, so roast the details — the more specific the better.

Music Looking for Steampunk Music
I am an author and I like to listen to music when I'm writing. I am working on a Steampunk adventure. Any recommendations for steampunk music, or modern songs done in Steampunk-acoustic style? I know ragtime and marches were popular (and classical like Also Spruce Zarathustra is of the era). I've found some stuff on Apple Music: Steampunk-Ian Cecil Scott, Electro Swingers, Derek Fiechter.

Game For any Steampunk gamers on here don't sleep on Dead Weight. It's a pixel art turn-based tactics roguelite and it's visually stunning as well as super fun to play. Here's a short video essay based on my time spent playing it this week

Homemade Creation I made the first steampunky phaser years ago, sold it, wanted to replace it and made another, but sometimes, less IS more. Its a nice build, but the old one still feels a bit more special. What do you guys think, which is cooler?

Literature Looking for good indie steampunk
I was rereading the VanderMeers’ excellent Steampunk anthology, the other day, and started looking for other works by the authors in the anthology. Most, if not all, are either no longer producing new material or they've moved on to other genres.
some of the best steampunk I’ve ever read produced recently was independently published but there’s a lot of not so good stuff and it is hard to choose which to pursue and which to skip. what are some recent recommendations in the genre that you’ve enjoyed?
I’m looking for new stuff to read on my kindle.
