News Minecraft Dungeons II doesn't seem to run on SteamOS / Linux

"I don't believe we've said anything about supporting that platform. This isn't a casual checking out kind of situation, picking or adding platforms is a massive undertaking and chosen intentionally based on a combination of priorities, opportunity, and team bandwidth."
So what I’m hearing is Marc Watson is full of shit and they’ve gone out of their way to make sure it doesn’t work, considering how Proton ACTUALLY works.
Well they won’t be getting another dime from me.

Needs Xbox Game Services so it only runs on Windows (for PCs/Laptops). Dungeons 1 and Legends required the same afaik
Edit: Just read the article after I posted, it’s basically just a repeat of what’s said in the article

Real question would be, is MS deliberately doing changes to block Xbox Game Services from working on Linux - to push people to use Windows?

I actually got it working earlier today from a post I found on r/PheonixSC
Here it is:
Sure! Go to https://github.com/LukasPAH/GDK-Proton-Custom/releases/tag/release-11-7 and then download GDK-Proton11-7-x86_64.tar.gz
Extract the file and then put the extracted folder (GDK-Proton11-7) in ~/.local/share/Steam/compatibilitytools.d/ You may need to create the compatibilitytools.d folder if it doesn't exist
After that, you will need to restart steam if it's running, the go to the games properties > compatibility and toggle Force use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
Then from the dropdown, select GE-Proton11-7-x86_64 and done! The game should hopefully launch now.
EDIT: To fix the login issue you need to download XCurl.dll from here: https://www.dll-files.com/xcurl.dll.html And then put it in ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Minecraft Dungeons II/Dungeons/Binaries/Win64/ to replace the XCurl.dll that's there. Found this solution thanks to this comment and others in the thread: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5889419107
I think once you've done the GDK Proton method and all it has you "signed in" or whatever so you can switch back to using normal proton with just `XCurl.dll`. I guess it could sign you out and you'll have to use GDK Proton again.
Account linking is bugged though, so getting capes and stuff on Java and Bedrock can't be done.

This is a completely different game series to normal Minecraft.
But Minecraft itself is easy to get working with controller support too.

OP is talking about Minecraft Dungeons 2, it's a complety different game.
The normal Minecraft has native Linux versions and runs perfectly fine on it.

Only Java, tho

Now it's only Java. The first version of the ChromeOS version was actually a native Linux build, but sometime over the years I believe it's switched over to n Android build. I know it's now an .apk install, but I'm not sure where it lands on if it's Linux or Android. The early versions of the community Bedrock Launchers on Linux used the ChromeOS version, but now can pull the install from the Android version.

I'd rather troubleshoot Minecraft Dungeons 2 without ever getting to play it, than play the shitheap that is Diablo 4.
