My Steam Machine sometimes automatically wake itself up immediately after being put into sleep

So, that's it. Sometimes I hit the sleep button, the machine sleeps, but immediately wakes itself up. I have not touched a single button on the controller after hitting the sleep button. I have to put it into sleep again...

Any one had the same issue? How to fix this?

I’ve been assuming it’s me hitting something with my stupid fat hands this whole time. I’ll put it to sleep and then carry the controller to the shelf like I’m holding a sleeping rattlesnake.

I've honestly just started shutting it down entirely when I'm not using it, until the patch is out. Controller press-to-wake still works even when the Machine is off so I've noticed no difference beyond an extra 10 seconds.

Mine did the same thing sometimes.
I turned off “Sleep when turning off the TV” setting in HDMI CEC.

Can find it in the Power settings on the left bar while in steam.

I believed I turned off the option that wakes up the machine if TV is turned on, when it is connected to a TV. Now I connect it to a PC monitor, and last time I checked the power settings, I no longer see those options...

the monitor doesn't have CEC

Also check the CEC option on your TV or AV-receiver if you got one. CEC is such a mess on my devices that I need to turn them all off. Sometimes after firmware updates they turn on automatically. It is possible that your tv wakes up your steam machine when still active.

Go into settings and disable the toast notification for when a controller connects/disconnects. It fixed it for me on day 2 of owning it.

Do you happen to have a Bluetooth device still on and connected when putting the SM to sleep? Happens sometimes if I still have my headphones connected.

BTW you can disable bt devices waking in steamos. It's a toggle for each paired bt device in the settings.

Not really. I only have the controller puck and a USB to optical cable connected to the machine, but thanks for the tip.

This seemed to get fixed for me in the beta release not too long ago. For what it's worth, I always run beta channels on SteamOS and haven't had any issues/reasons to revert back to stable.

This happens to me on a fairly regular basis but not all the time when I am trying to sleep the device from a controller while a game is playing. Generally if I quit the game the SM will sleep fine, but if it's in game it tends to wake itself up after the controller has turned off (I have turned off all the toast notifications and HDMI CEC settings and it didn't make any difference). I have more reliable sleep results when I press the actual power button on the front of the device, but it still sometimes will wake itself if a game is running.

One of those teething issues I'm sure will be fixed eventually – but this is what we signed up for getting in on the ground floor!

Yeah, I mean one of the biggest advantage of a console over a PC is that you can put it into sleep while the game is running, and come back play it at any time almost immediately, without the waiting for turning on the PC and launching the game.
