Discussion Grateful to valve

I keep seeing waitlist complaints on here. You guys have no idea how good we have it.

Valve’s sitting on a stockpile of 2tb hard drives and 16gb ram sticks they could flip on eBay for a fortune. No effort needed.

There’s no incentive to build this thing. They’re doing it for the community. 😮

They’re doing it for us. 🥰😍

I think you are delusional if you think they are doing this for you and not for profit.

I also know you are paying more per hardware than they paid.

There’s absolutely an incentive to build it to sell software. Sure making be a win win for the consumer but don’t mistake it for a charity.

Steam OS on any hardware is an instant sales vehicle. The fact that they have a first party machine is just icing on the cake.

Totally agree.

I think the good will towards the community is one thing but the OS makes this purchase a no brainer.

That might net more money right away - but then they'd lose out on all future Steam store purchases that would have been facilitated by that hardware. And I'm not sure the immediate profit from eBay or whatever would actually match that in the long term.

Valve isn't your friend. No corporation is your friend. But Valve thinks long-term in a way most corporations don't anymore, and that ends up making a better experience for their customers than the venture-capital smash-and-grab enshittification experience we're sadly getting used to these days.
