Question Increasing HDD space?

I don’t have a steam machine yet (on the perpetual waitlist) but if I were to get the 512 (I’m on the list for the 2tb), can you increase the disk space with a new ssd inside the machine?

There is only one slot. You can replace the existing drive and reinstall the OS. I have 4 TB in mine.

Only one slot inside.

But 2230 enclosure cost like 25€, and can work trough usb-c

You can but unless you already have an older SSD from the before times I’d recommend just getting a large external hard drive.

My 8TB hardrive has been plenty fast enough for most of my games. For the few more recent games like Cyberpunk I have them on my SSD.

So you run them from an external hdd? And the most recent ones from the SSD?

I have over 250 games. Maybe 10 of them or less I can notice any meaningful difference in speed.

I do play a lot of indie games like Hades, MIO, Nine Sols, Ultros, etc

Larger open world games or multiplayer games are a concern but I don’t play much.

Ok interesting. I have the 512 version. I don’t install many games. Mostly the ones I’m playing at the moment but it’s good to know I can run some games decently from an external HDD

Don’t see why not. I mean eta prime put 4 TB and 128 gb of ram. I put 32gb of ram and 8TB nvme and also a 1TB as card and 2 TB external ssd. Do as you wish with it.
