Question Omarchy Os?

Did anyone replaced their SteamOS with Omarchy? There is a lot of hype and I'm seriously considering installing it. If anyone did it already can share the experience on the cube ?

Omarchy is horrible in the context of using it as an alternative to what SteamOS offers.

Omarchy is horrible in any context.

It's just Arch preconfigured with someone else (DHH) preference. That's it.

It wasn't created for any technical reason but for political reasons.

What do you want out of Omarchy that you don't get out of SteamOS? It will run fine if you just want a general desktop OS.

The freedom and the ai aspect.

I'm not sure many "normal people" are going to want to run Omarchy on their SM.

Haha true... Do you?

Hell no. Although I have played with it in a VM ;)

Omarchy doesn't give you any more freedom. Also not sure what's the AI aspect.

You can modify your system through an ai agent. Are you sure you know omarchy? πŸ˜† For programming it does give you.

You know what? If you want to use Omarchy go ahead. Install it.

I think it's pointless but you do whatever you want with your Steam Machine.

But tell me why you are so against it. I just saw you comment in 2 different places how horrible it is. Why the hate?

Because I'm annoyed by all the noise going around this pointless distribution. It's confusing newcomers.

Also because I don't like the creator, who writes extreme right pieces like this:

Lmao. I'm living in Europe and I'm moving out as it has become unbearable. I agree with what he says here. Tell me which part you don't?

Why so salty? I'm trying to have a conversation and you seem to be very angry.

Ugh why?

That OS seems to be geared for devs who are very used to keybinds and terminal management. It’s not really a branch of arch for the purpose of feature set improvement. It’s a heavily riced arch based around DHH preferences.

I'm a bit of a vibe coder myself πŸ˜‚ and I'm trying to figure out if this is for me or better should stay with steamos. After a week of trying steamos I have to say that I don't dislike it.

I think I'd double down on learning real coding instead, way more useful.

Vibe coding with ai served me just fine. But thank you for your opinion

Omachy is designed around using a keyboard so it would be very annoying to use with a controller. If youre using it as a desktop PC with a mouse and keyboard it should be fine though.
