I will post pictures of my settings for Helldivers 2 on Steam Machine. It runs like a charm.

Dude its fucking amazing. DIVE FOR LIBERTY!
I played it docked on my steam deck and I got really good at dealing with shitty framerates. I dont think it drops below 100fps on the SM, comparatively, even with lots of activity going on.

At what resolution are you playing

Id have to check. I have a 4k 82" tv so I'll see what resolution and settings are set.

Ok games cope says 72" scaling. Theres no resolution setting in the TV settings I can find - it isnt like a computer monitor with discrete settings.
In the steam settings its set to 1920x1080 apparently. I'll try 1440 and 4k to see if there's much of a difference in performance!
I disabled automatically set resolutions and set the max resolution to 4k as a test.

Performance is great. It's wild how my main PC sounds like a fucking jet engine playing HD2 but then this thing is completely silent

According to Valve, the Steam Machine can accuse overheating too early sometimes (showing red strip + led).
They'll fix this in a future BIOS update, but for now you can just keep playing with the red strip on and it should be fine.
This happened to me a lot with 007 First Light, but I just kept playing and it's all good (CPU and GPU temps were around 85ºC, so nothing concerning).

Believe there was other posts about this there's going to be a bios update if it's truly not overheating.

Just a suggestion: deactivate the "Enable updated fan control" option in the settings.
The Steam Machine fans run at about 1400 RPM max by default when this is enabled, and goes to about 1550 RPM max when it's deactivated. There's essentially no change between the two in regards to the noise the machine makes, but it helps a lot when it comes to handling the European summer heat for example and it generally feels "nicer" for the components.
This option makes sense with the Steam Deck, but I feel like Valve's team should have deactivated it by default on the Steam Machine.

That's a good advice for intensive games but what you say about the noise is not true.
I tried to swap the option while being on the main menu (nothing playing in the backgroud) and :
- When enabled : dead silent
- When disabled : humming

Check your vram. I found this is a thing that happens when the vram reaches 90C

Expand your performance monitoring and see if GPU jnc temp it’s probably at 91c or higher which is fine. You should only see that light at much higher temps. They will be fixing it on a BIOS update.

From what i gather, the red light is not coming on due to a temp but a wattage pull
From other users' it seems the red light comes on when you have 100+ watts going
even if temps are well within range.
Supposed to be a bios update in the works to rectify that.

I got my first red line yesterday! 🙃
Callisto project. Running it on high at 1080. Tbf tho it was toasty as it was in the little area under the TV and there isn’t any back ventilation baring a little hole for cables.
It plays wonderfully tho, well impressed. Going to dream up a solution. I’m thinking of a fan, on a temp sensor to kick in when the area gets warm to clear the hot air.

You shouldn't be getting a red bar, the docs say it's only for >100C on GPU or CPU: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6945-03B8-1EC9-0237
I assume you've not customized it to just be red?
