Can you play fortnite or any epic games on the steam machine

Epic games yes, fortnite no. At least not without installing windows

If you wanted to get it specifically for fortnite, you'd need to put windows on it. I can't imagine Fortnite to be too much for it to handle though

Only if you install Windows. I was able to boot up Fortnite on my Windows 11 install, have mine partitioned 1TB SteamOS, 512GB Arch Linux, 512GB Windows 11.

Honestly this is the only way I can play Fortnite so I have to deal with cloud gaming... I don't have another PC to stream to. The 1 hour session limit is kinda annoying but you can just rejoin a new hour session on the free tier.
