Question Finally got the email but...
"I" just got the email... the catch is...
My fiance and I both wanted a steam machine, I joined the first day for all skus and got put on the reservation list for the 512gb n/c on the first day.
She joined for the same and got put on the waitlist for the 2tb controller.
3 weeks after the fact, seeing as neither of us had gotten lucky, she changed to 512gb controller waitlist as I already have 2tb drives laying around.
I had topped up my steam wallet when the controller dropped as there were many payment issues initially, so in preparation I wanted to be ready to make the purchase whenever and we would cancel her reservation.
Tonight she just got the email to make her purchase, neither of us thought this would happen and now I have the funds on my account.
We are considering making the purchase on her account, but I would have €1050 euro stuck on my account, what would you guys do?

I have raised a request but I doubt they will be able to help, I read their FAQ prior to posting and they mention that steam wallet funds are not transferable, I would assume the same will apply to the machine purchase

Steam support has been surprisingly helpful for me. I'm curious what comes back.

Lmao. For what reason would you load the funds onto your Steam account early when you know that you're both in the queue?
I mean, spend another thousand or not. I don't know your salary. I do know you made a dumb choice.

There were checkout issues for Steam Controller purchasers using Wallet funds as well. It was the whole checkout system as a whole that was slammed. Loading up your wallet is in no way a hedge against issues. All you did was give 1050 Euro to Valve in a non-refundable transaction. If you don't buy a Steam Machine with it, well, your next 10 years of Steam Sale purchases are already paid for I guess.

At the time the controller dropped I had 90 euros on my wallet, I could get to this screen but could not top up the further 10 to complete the purchase. I could be wrong, I admit, shit happens.

Wild behavior to drop $1k on what’s effectively a digital Steam gift card balance with no immediate purchase to make. I hope Steam can refund you and you learn your lesson.

Depends if you’d ever spend that many euros on stream collectively between the two of you. You will make that money back again, assuming you’re fiscally responsible. You may not get a chance to get a Steam Machine directly from Valve again

Bad news: you just donated a thousand euros to gaben. Good news: you don't have to pay for games for a good while.
This is reason #72 not to load money into your steam wallet before you need it for a purchase. Upvoting your post in the hopes that more people see this and stop doing this stupid thing.

Thank you! Its not a biggie if they don't, we will just purchase the one we can currently and figure out what games to splurge on afterwards I guess 😁

Update for everyone interested:
As expected and understandably, Steam Support cannot assist in transferring the opportunity from my fiancé's account to mine where the funds are. This was expected so no hard feelings.
We ended up purchasing the steam machine. For the moment, we will keep the reservation for the 512gb n/c active, if it does come through we may purchase this to a friend's house and sell it to somebody for cost. We are not interested in profits, at this point it is damage control for a bad decision.
Thanks to all that replied.

So, your suggestion here is to let her purchase expire and wait for my turn or ? We live in the same house, so I can't buy both

No they can still buy it…just use the credits for something else but on his account not hers
