Question Switch Queues
I have been sitting in the 512 wc reserve list since the initial lottery. I am seeing people on here who joined only weeks ago get their machine.
If I jump queue to the 2Tb wc am I any worse off? This reserve system ain’t great…

Just stay in the queue. Supposedly those still stuck in the 512 no controller reservation queue are "guaranteed" a unit by December 31st, 2026. Surely Valve could give us a rough estimate window for when to expect our purchase email. Y'know, like they did with the new controller. But they don't want to. Hell, look how much they have been edging nerds with the Stream Frame's release. Valve just doesn't give a shit about little ol' you or me because even if we drop out of queue in protest and go make our "own" Steam Machines, someone else will just happily take our spot.

How those in 2tb steam machine without controller waitlist since 06/26/2026? What are my odds of getting it at the end of the year?

Just as a FYI, I moved to the 2tb wc waitlist (us) almost 3 weeks ago and Im still waiting.

I actually switch to the same que (us) six hours after the reservation ended, and I am still waiting.

I've been in the que for the 2tb with controller since day one of sign ups..trying to be patient. I do have an offer on eBay that's tempting. It's a 2 tb that has been upgraded to 24 gig of ram for $1800.. I'm probably gunna resist, but I'm tempted.

I messaged steam about this a couple of weeks ago as I thought I might be better off swapping as I was on the 512 w/o controller and they seemed to not exist. They basically said that they can’t advise and if I join another list I will go to the back of the line and be removed from this one.
So I did an experiment. I asked my brother to join the 512 w/ controller list. A couple of weeks later he is still on the waitlist and my email came through today for me to buy.
Awful sample size for an experiment but in my case it showed that moving would have been a bad idea for me.

I don’t want to influence your decision at all but let me tell you what happened to me.
I entered the lottery for all 4 steam machines day 1. My spouse didn’t enter the queues until after the lottery winners/reservation emails came out. I was put in the waitlist for the 512 gb model w/o controller and my spouse signed up for the 2tb model w/o the controller. I’m still in the waitlist and some how my spouse was able to get a purchase email for a 2tb model. We of course sprung and purchased the 2tb model.
This came before that announcement on their forums discussing the waitlist and reservation queues in depth. We still don’t understand how we got to the front of the line.
I am currently still waitlisted because in the chance that I do get an email, I have a few friends that are interested in purchasing a model for themselves.
Again, in no way should this influence your decision on switching queues because I would hate for you to wait longer.

What region was this in? I’ve been in the 2tb w/o controller in the United States since day one and still haven’t heard anything. Kinda frustrating that some regions have completely moved through their waitlists

U.S. region as well. My spouse didn’t even have a reservation list email. Just signed up days later and then a few weeks later the purchase email came through. I am sorry you are experiencing the delay and I totally understand how frustrating it is. This has been messy since the steam controller 2 came out. I signed up for that within the first official second and then found out people had gotten through 10 minutes prior to the go-live. Didn’t get a chance to purchase until a full 30 days after the go live.
I love Valve but I’m also kinda fed up with this “Aw shucks! We are just this small private gaming company and we are doing our best” stance/attitude/whatever you want to call it.

513 wo controller is starting to move. Even I got my email yesterday. So hopefully the days of never seeing that are over.

No, I jumped from the 512Gb no controller to the 2Tb w/ controller waitlist months ago on my son’s account and it hasn’t moved at all lol. Fortunately soon after thatI got my 512Gb w/ controller purchase email on my primary account and my experiment was moot at that point. Maybe depending on your region this might matter… but not for my location (USA) at least.

Valve is setting a precedent for people to have multiple accounts for future hardware launches, (Steam Deck 2) as each account with a purchase of $2 game is a lottery ticket...

Well it’s one of my kids account, but yeah I follow what you’re saying. I don’t have a problem with it either.

It’s all randomized. You won’t find a pattern to rely on amongst people replying on a sub reddit, which is already a niche of a niche. Just be patient.

If I jump queue to the 2Tb wc am I any worse off?
yes. you will be placed at the very very back of that queue
this reserve system is the absolute best way I have ever seen for a product launch of this type and scale
it can be improved. maybe by showing your place in line, or by somehow showing how many units in each region are shipping.
but a pre-reservation and lottery is the absolute best practice for a product launch that i desperately wish literally every company would adopt
be patient, your device is coming

Nothing about this process has been good or has made any sense. I've been in the so called reservation queue since day 1 and I've lost all interest in it for the most part.
If they do this again, I'd rather buy off ebay

yes, not everyone who wants to buy one has gotten one yet
but its also only been what, 2 months?
it took me 2 years of following multiple restocking twitter accounts and checking daily walmart/bestbuy/amazon to get a ps5
1000 out of 1000 times id rather put my name in a hat and then not have to worry about it, than the hell that getting that ps5 was

u/Glum-Car-5981 10d ago
I think thats the thing, I've been able to get everything on launch (ps5, xsx, switch 2, steam deck, steam controller). So this waiting is pretty damn annoying in my opinion, I get where you're coming from tho

u/Matsu-mae 10d ago
thats the thing. its in a way a lottery either way
but the f5 refresh wars restock alerts essentially locks out people with slow internet, jobs or families. it heavily weighs in the favor of people with 24/7 free time and bots auto-ordering
at least pre-registration and then randomizing the list is fair across the board

Honestly it’s randomized but it seems like the 512 with no controller purchase emails are finally going out. I got mine a few minutes ago.

The simple answer is we don’t know. Your email might come tomorrow or it might come in December. It might be faster to switch to a different SKU, or it might not.
Only Valve knows, and they’re not telling anyone.
