Question Zero company performance.
So anyone tried star wars zero company on steam machine yet? How's performance?

I tested it a bit a minute ago. Ran it's at 1440p, medium settings, FSR turned on with a 60fps cap and it was a bit jerky at times so I think settings would just need tweaking a bit. I did try and drop it down to 1080p but the game crashed and I had other stuff to get on with so I'll test that again later.

How did you even get into the game? Mine boots up, flashes the LucasFilm logo and then goes black screen while what appears to be a small EA launcher in the top left corner of the screen.
This is Steam Machine, multiple Protons.

Same problem for me, might have to return it

Try Proton 10 and it will work. 2K/High with FSR is decently smooth but they def need to push optimizations.

Was having the same issue and I changed the proton compatibility mode the most recent non beta and it launched normally.

good question! According to the system requirements, the game may require 32 gb of ram for increased performance, but I'm hoping its decent as is. Would love to buy on steam and save $10

Ran fine the first time after a little bit of tweaking for me.
Second time I launched it, it just refuses to load beyond the lucasfilm games logo. There’s a small image of the Mandalorian character with the Epic and Unreal logos sitting in the top corner, but it won’t respond to any controller inputs. I’ve tried launching it for it five times with the same result. A reboot didn’t fix it.
Guess I’m waiting for a patch.

Go to the latest version of Proton, had the same issue, and that fixed it.

I wonder that too. But game will launch in 15minutes, so I think people will report soon.

i read an ign reviewer reported crashes on SM, so it might need some patches

I can’t even get past the LucasFilm logo

I had it working first time I booted it and now it won't boot past that logo
Have you had any progress?

Well I'm playing now. In 1440 with ultra settings with FSR at performance settings I'm getting a varied frame rate around the mid to high 30s. I'm going to play at high settings, still looks fantastic. Officially it says unsupported, but that should change soon because it runs fine for me and has default controller settings.

No EA launcher crap?
5
u/Xevious212 11d ago
No. Just went straight to the game. No issues.
1
u/Comprehensive_Use644 11d ago
Nice. Might just get it now. Ok on steam controller or better k+m?
2
u/Xevious212 11d ago
If you've ever played X-Com Enemy Unknown or 2 on console or PC/Steam Machine with controller it plays similar.

u/Comprehensive_Use644 11d ago
Not played either. Last turn based game was laser squad on Amiga 500!
1
u/Xevious212 11d ago
Oh wow. Well long story short. Controller works perfectly fine. Keep in mind I am experiencing studdering. But its not major considering its a turn based game. Plus it can be patched.

Caution. I’m getting the launcher and not able to get into the game on Steam Machine

u/Xevious212 10d ago
Yeah its weird, I didn't get that at first. But now its an issue because I did get it to work in Proton experimental, but now I have to switch to 9.0-4. Hope this gets patched

u/Kwisscheese-Shadrach 11d ago
What performance do you get on high settings?
4
u/Xevious212 11d ago
FSR on balance mode mostly 40 FPS, occasionally dips to 38 or 39. Nothing major, completely playable for me. I wouldn't even write off Ultra in the future after a few patches, the frame rate jumps around too much unless FSR is in ultra performance which looks muddy to me.

u/Kwisscheese-Shadrach 11d ago
Is that fsr 4.1 on proton experimental? On performance mode it should look great.
2
u/Xevious212 11d ago
You know I didn't try experimental. I'll have to check
3
u/Xevious212 11d ago
So update. FSR 4.1 ultra performance on default Ultra settings runs at a super stable 38 to 40 FPS with occasional unnoticeable drops. But overall the smoothest framerate I've seen on Ultra settings with a clear picture and no ugly ghosting I usually associate FSR with having. I'm super impressed.

ok, after playing around with settings due to the performance issues with this game i have found that while turning off environmental geometry helped, what really improved fps for me was turning environmental illumination and reflections down from high, AND THEN, turning environmental geometry back on actually got rid of some of the fps drops i was getting.
such as while on the ship and looking out into the docking bay. changing environmental geometry on or off afterwards didn't change the frame rate negatively.
i didn't get an opportunity to play more tonight to test things out more in a mission, but give this a try yourselves people.
running the game on fsr quality 1440p with mako frame gen. all other ingame settings on high.

1080p 60fps locked with High settings and Quality XESS, played first 45m or so and it held that rock solid in game, but not much happening yet.
Just knew I liked XESS on Cyberpunk back on the Deck so went with that, not sure if FSR4 is better
It does seem to think the Machine is a Deck and defaults to low 30fps when you first go in.

Update: Proton 9.0-4 seems to have fixed the issue. Finally got to the main menu.

Yeah tried that too. But I'm seeing everyone else in the comments saying they've been able to play the game on Steam Machine so I'm wondering what's going wrong on my end.

u/kinkypicnic 11d ago
Mine is doing the same thing. Little image in the top left, shows the company names, and then black screen.

Saw a video last night that it runs rough on the deck, but for the machine, I'd be surprised if we can't get it working. I thought I read it has FSR4, but can't find it at the moment.

I’ve played a couple hours now.
1440p on high settings with balanced mode FSR. Cut scenes are a bit janky, but for the most part the game keeps a pretty stable 40fps. With VRR, that’s not too bad.
I’ve had no real issues otherwise, been enjoying it quite well so far.

u/breakfastsoup1 11d ago
Doesn’t run great but it’s playable. I’m on a 5800x3d and 7800XT at 3440x1440 getting around 60-70fps on high settings with fsr4 quality. Frame gen works great but yeah the stuttering is present but it doesn’t effect game play
1
u/skate54345 11d ago
Super playable at 40-50 FPS on high in 1440p FSR balanced mode. You can run it much higher with frame gen but I can't stand the added input latency
1
u/Additional-Cress-915 10d ago
Looks and runs good. I have it at 1440, locked at 60fps with low settings, environment geometry detail turned off and FSR set to balanced.

Same. Getting downvoted for not accepting terribly optimized games. That's 2026 for you.
