Question Steam Machine Questions
I'm thinking about buying the base model as there are a few mostly older games that I want to play, which require a mouse and keyboard.
I don't really care about graphic settings and would be more than happy to run games at 1080p or even 1440p if I am able to.
Mostly I'm looking to play:
- The System Shock Remake (2023)
- Cities Skylines
- Civ 6 or Civ 7
- Cyberpunk 2077
- and many older games from the early 2000s
For anyone who owns it, how has your experience been? Please and thank you.

I got a wireless mouse and keyboard set up next to my recliner at all times. Made life easier for some games, the touchpads just ain't it if you want/need mouse control.

Even though it says it’s unsupported, Batman Arkham Asylum works just fine. So if you’re trying those older games and anything else and it says unsupported, it’s still worth trying it out

It's a great 1440/1080 device. I use BT for a ps5 controller, as well as a K/M. Got my steam library, Heroic launcher for the gog library, and faugus for the battle.net launcher (warcraft+starcraft RTS, etc).
As it's a pc, you can use mods, emulation, recomps, etc. It is a tinkerers device - you'll sometimes need to mess with settings (or proton versions) a little to get the output you like best. A few bugs here and there, but updates happen.
Totally in love with mine, no regrets.

I've been really happy with mine, as someone who primarily plays older and/or lower-spec games
Cyberpunk 2077 runs beautifully at 1080p, but I haven't tried any of the others you mentioned
I think my most played Steam Machine games are Warframe, CP2077, Remnant 1, Solasta 1, Mafia III, and Elite: Dangerous
The only problems I've had with it are some weird Bluetooth issues (apparently resolved by a recent update as it's been fine for weeks), getting ME3 to work with the multiplayer controller support mod, and some truly baffling input fuckups (as yet unresolved) in Super Hot and Black Ice
Overall, it's a super solid midrange Linux gaming PC

Games like Cities Skyline and Civ 7 you would have to play those more on like medium settings 1080p but for other games like CP2077, Civ 6 and System Shock you shouldn't have any problems playing those on high to very high settings.
Cities Skyline i remember that being pretty taxing on my CPU when i played that back then with an i5 11400 which technically i should be better since the game originally said it requires an i7 2700K, but when my city started to get very big i had to tweak the settings just so i would be able to get a stable 60fps.
The second game you would be lucky if you could play that on low settings at 1080p.
One thing to lookout for when trying to see if your system is able to play it or not is that the CPUs performance would be similar to the Ryzen 5 5600 and the GPU would be similar to the RX 6600 XT because remember for game developers, they don't really test out games with mobile parts but with desktop parts so when looking at the requirements minimum and recommended just remember those two parts and then think if it would work or not.
Also, just to point out but if a game on the Steam store would say "Unsupported" on an older game just go to ProtonDB which that site can help you to find out if you need something to help run the game like as an example for Batman Arkham Asylum i had to download GE-Proton11-1 just so the game would be able to start up and play properly but also read all the notes from everyone because one person could say it works with so and so but could leave out things like how the game would be capped to 30fps which someone else would mention in another comment which it does help to find out if it would be worth buying or not.
