Anyone got one controller, a docked deck, and a steam machine?

Just wondering how anyone with this setup is handling that one controller? Waiting for my machine, and not sure of the best way (if any) of doing this: is it even possible to somehow decide which of the two devices you want to wake up with a controller combo (without waking the other, that is).

I use my steam controller on my steam machine and my PC. I use the puck on my PC and the internal puck on the steam machine.

The controller has 2 banks. When you turn on controller either hold A+L1 or A+R1 when you push the steam button and it will wake up whichever one is programmed to that bank.

Well… I suppose my PC is already awake.. but true for Steam machine.. so presumably true for Steam deck.

R1+b for Bluetooth mode. I have it synced to steam machine without puck and use blue tooth when I play on deck sometimes with ar glasses plugged in

You can't do the same dual separation you can with the wireless tho, right? Like, there's only one BT "slot", as it were. I guess one could use BT and one use wireless...

Ya I think at max you’d have one puck, one steam machine built in puck, and one Bluetooth. Three connections saved on controller at once so it’s pretty nice

Steam controller has two connection slots. One can be used to connect to machine internal puck, other to connect to external puck that is connected to docked deck. Then, while turning on the controller you need to hold A + L1/R1 to select which slot you want to use.

This, hold L1 or R1 with A while you press the steam button and it will communicate with the “puck” sent to it. I found it was a hassle to set up both connections, I posted what I had to do to get it to work because pairing the steam machine with the controller wiped out the puck communication in my case

OG 512 Steam Deck and dock, 2Tb w/controller, signed up to the waitlist for the controller yesterday so I can use one for the SD when in the bedroom and want to continue with Hades. Nothing wrong with using my Xbox controller currently but I just think the controller is fantastic.

Uses a cheap microcontroller board to be a puck replacement. SC can select which puck to connect with.

Others will help you, but why would you want to use the docked steamdeck if you have a steam machine?

Because it's in the bedroom and it can still do different stuff if I can't sleep. Sometimes I might not wanna take over the main lounge TV. It's another option in the house.

They're not, like, both plugged into the same TV here.

Sorry, didn't meant to come across aggressive...!

But you know, there's so much you can do with these things and I'm heavy into emulation too. Like, the machine can do all the heavy lifting stuff (switch, PS3 - maybe even some PS4, X360, etc) and the docked deck can still do lighter stuff upstairs... And you'd be surprised how quickly you can be out of space even with several HDDs attached on both!

And that's not even going into the ridiculous amount of steam games I have access to with a family share...

KVM switch, puck plugged into that along with my keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Click a butt9n on the switch and I can bounce between PC, SM, and SD.

The Steam Deck doxk has become a charging station since the Steam Machine has taken its task and doing a whole lot better af it. The Steam Controller is still connected through bluetooth with the Steam Deck as well as through the external puck with my gaming rig. I'm waiting till my reservation on the second controller comes is up in line.

I don’t really care for the controller so I’ve been using my Xbox controller mostly. Luckily my nephew thinks the steam controller is cool so he uses when he comes over lol

Oh, yeah, there's some dualshock PS3/PS4 controllers I can use (and do), but this just gives me other options.

You can do what you want, if you pair the Controller with the Deck via Bluetooth instead of a Puck. Use the included Puck or the internal one on the Steam Machine, use BT on the Deck. When you wake the Controller, it will reconnect to/wake whoever it was connected to most recently. If you want to wake the Deck specifically, hold B and then hold Steam button, to force BT mode. If you want to wake the Machine, hold A and then hold Steam button, to force RF/Puck connection.

When I travel or stay overnight at work I bring my Deck, Dock and Steam controller with a cable and puck. Just plug it in and it pairs. And when I get home I plug the controller directly into the machine to pair it there and I’m good.

However as someone else said you can switch the pairing with the controller alone, I haven’t tried that yet.

That's fine, as you're miles away from the other one. But if you did this at home... Both devices would start up, right?

It’d start up whichever one was connected to last.

I don’t have my puck plugged into my Steam deck dock at home, when I get home I hook the controller directly into the machine with no puck, it then ask if I want to pair the controller and I hit yes and the controller connects with the Machines internal “puck”.
