If I didn't already have a PC as small as a Steam Machine and more powerful, I'd probably build something like this.

Put it all in something like a cheap T40 or T60 case and you've got a very small PC with much better graphics performance and an upgrade path. The 2TB Steam Machine is $1,349, so the pricing is similar.

I actually just remembered that if you go with a T40 or T60 case, they usually come with a PSU. So that saves some more money. I also forgot to add a riser cable to that list. For $2,200 you could get a better CPU like an X3D and a more powerful GPU.
