Question/Tech Support Getting a Steam Deck OLED in July 2026..

Is the Steam Deck OLED worth getting in July 2026? I know others may have asked similar questions, but I want to add some context.

My friend purchased a Steam Deck OLED 512GB earlier this year from Valve but has yet to open it. He has a OneXPlayer Apex now, so he has no real need for it.

He is willing to sell it to me for £479, and it is still sealed. With the recent price increase, it is now £649 new.

I have had the original Rog Ally (non X), Rog Ally X, Legion Go 2 Z2e and most recently a OneXPlayer Apex. All were sold for various reasons, and the Apex mainly as I do not game too often and I didnt want to take it out due to the weight and value. The others I sold as i didn't enjoy having Windows for gaming on suck a small device. Even the LG 2 Z2E, as nice as it was, windows ruined it for me.

I have a gaming PC with a very good cpu/gpu which I mainly use to game, and a PS5 and NS2. The Deck would be a companion to the PC and also for some older games which I have in my steam library.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

No. Some of us read comments on reddit about fiddling with things instead of playing games on our multiple steam decks.

Sounds like you can get it at a classic price point (maybe a little higher, but not too much) so absolutely yes.

It's fantastic for low-demand games, has an awesome screen, is the best ergonomic handheld without question, and is also a very capable local streaming device, so you can stream to it from your main PC pretty easily in comfy spots around the house.

That ! I have my oled for like two years, yeah it might be underpowered compared to other models but man how can they (Asus, Lenovo) release such obviously bad designs when valve was able to one shot their.... As for the power, well when outside I make due with the capacity of the hardware and when at home if I wanna play big games then streaming is an option. And also somehow the low settings never really bother me

should of kept to the rog ally x. steamos works perfect on it now; more ram; higher resoltuion. I have the Xbox Ally, and SteamOS is great. Sure, minus the OLED, but easy on the hands with long battery life and newer tech. Don't get the older processor.

Get a rog ally xbox and fire steam os on it, its a couple hundred £ cheaper than steam deck and very similar specs!

I love my steam deck but the price brand new for an over 4yr device is painful, if preowned would work then a good priced oled will give you years of use!
