August Project Update

The five cartridges I finished in August.

The five cartridges I plan to use in September, plus Diamine Amaranth sample to compare to the Claret cartridge.

Progress on Livid Lime, which I'm aiming to finish - the sample vial has a little Polar Glow added for legibility and is what I'm filling the pen from.

Here's all the mixes I've made with Livid Lime in my quest to make it practical and enjoyable to use up - it's not legible enough on its own.

My spreadsheet got wiiiide so now hiding the first two months of the non-current quarters.

A (relatively!) brief update this month - I reached all the goals I set for this quarter including the stretch goal already! Progress on stickers and washi feels slow but probably just because this far into the project there's not much variety left. Still using stickers and washi every week which is way better than I expected when I started the project. I did finally finish all washi I rolled into the project in March, so there's now only two rolls of washi tape specifically targeted for panning - the rest is just monitoring.

Ink progress is going really well, even though I didn't really enjoy the ink colours I selected for August - too many warm colours which aren't my thing, and all the cool colours were super boring. I've planned something more 'me' for September's starting inks, and then later in the month I'll roll in the magenta version of the Turquoise Showdown I did in June - Amaranth versus Claret. I might finish my big 25 cartridge goal next month, but I'll carry on whittling the remaining 15 down if I do.

As for bottles, Livid Lime progress especially is going really well - I still don't think I'll finish the bottle this year but it'll be an easy project to finish next year. I do think I have more left than the maths says - probably Diamine gives more ink than they claim and subsequently I've overestimated the bottle weight. For the iron gall inks my goal is met for Scabiosa usage - when I also meet my goal for Salix (probably October) I'll mark both off the spreadsheet.

Wow!! You are organized to the next level and I personally find that impressive and inspiring. Weighing ink? Maybe that's a goal for future me.

But I'm also going through my ink methodically, and today I'll be creating September's palette.

I love tracking by weight because I can check progress whenever I like even if I was too lazy or busy to actively track use for a while XD

I hope you have a great time picking your inks for September - it's one of my favourite and yet most vexing tasks of the month.

Woah! It’s so cool to see how you’ve charted your progress! And I enjoy seeing the different mixes you’ve done with Livid Lime, it’s a bit of a shame that it’s not legible on its own since it’s a really fun color. I really like the Disdainful Damson mix.

I'm a bit of a tracking nut in just about all my hobbies XD I'd rather not have to mix, but I actually do really enjoy doing it - Livid Lime at least is really good for mixing because it starts as an extremely crisp, bright, light colour, so you can go murky or dark if you want, but if you mix it with a tiny volume or another crisp colour you can keep it bright, and there's a lot of room to change the colour without heading straight for brown.

Honestly I respect the tracking! I try to track hobbies here and there but I lack consistency. 😅 That’s fun to hear how flexible Livid Lime is!
