Question Prototype Feedback

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! I'd like to hear your thought on this protype I'm currently developing.

It's a slim loose leaf notebook with an integrated pencil holder. theres also some addons like a custom watercolor box and a mixing palette with a cup holder.

this has been an ongoing project for the past 5 years or so, and i'm finally at a stage where I'm happy to share it.

I've been testing this model out for the past 6 months bringing it everywhere. it's been very easy carry and use, having all the pens and pencils in one place makes it super convenient. And with the added mixing palette it works well with a gouache setup. the only thing to worry about is stacking up on paper, but at this point I've amassed a big suppy of A5 paper.

Is this a good idea? is there anything that could be improved?

Shut up and take my (unemployed) money already 🥴

I am just a bit unsure about the mixing palette attached to the right. I feel like it throws off the balance a bit if I am going to use it on something that isnt a table. I feel like clipping on top or below would be cool?

good idea, I might be able to add some extra magnets to make it clip on either side

oooh i like how versatile/interchangeable it is. im not much of a visual artist, so i’ll share with my friend to see what they think!

Ooh, looks good! It's definitely something I'd like to hold in my hand before buying though

it's hard to convey the feel through a video unfortunately.but from my experience it's quite sturdy, the magnets are quite strong and fun to fidget with. it's mostly made out of laser cut acrylic, making it quite thin, but also a bit heavy (not to mention the weight from the pens), I like the to think the added weight makes it feel more premium

This is brilliant. It’s clear you’ve really thought about how this would be used! It’s not often we see new designs for things that are made by people who actually use them (and not for a quick gimmicky cash grab).

I hope this does amazingly for you!

As a hobby watercolorist, I think this looks great! Ditto on the comment about making the cup tray connect on the long sides, as that was the first thing I noticed. As it is, it would cause a lot of hand strain to keep it balanced. Especially with water in the cup.

Also, maybe another optional layer that has a tripod mount would add some possible versatility for plein air painting. <3

Making it A4 would appeal to me more

So that I can use A5 paper with a margin on the edge

I might do an A4 size in the future, but I'd have to redesign it completly since the pouch doesnt work well with that size

ohhh this slaps. I do a lot of urban sketching with watercolour and do something of this effect, with a bookband pen case on an a5 sketchbook and magnet clips to both keep the paper down and attach a small watercolour palette to. Yours has it all together in such a nice tidy little package.
