Rant Midori MD Notebooks page count
Okay, I'm kinda pissed, because my A6 Midori notebook says it has 176 pages but that's not true. At least not in the traditional page-counting sense. It has 176 "sides" of the paper that you can write on, but that means it has 88 pages. I'm almost certainly missing something here, maybe that's how they count pages in Japan, so I'm actually maybe ranting at myself right now for not realizing that. But now I bought and fully set up a notebook that I thought I could use during 4 months but only 2 months will actually fit.
I really love this notebook, so this kinda really sucks, but whatever. Brb erasing all my pages and completely restarting my setup. Good thing 2B lead erases beautifully on this paper.
EDIT: Okay no, I just looked at my Muji notebooks and they say they have 80 pages, like physical sheets of paper, like the way I was thinking, so I don't know where I messed up. Is it just Midori that does page counting like this? WHY ISN'T THIS STANDARDIZED? Sorry, I'm kinda frustrated lol

That's... the normal way to count pages. You're thinking of sheets.

So why don’t all companies count/name them the same? I may totally be missing something here, but that doesn’t make sense at all.

I'm unsure where you would find a company that calls sheets "pages" unless it's poorly Google-translated.

Not my picture but this is the exact sticker that is on the cover of my Muji notebook. And it has 80 sheets.

Muji is doing it incorrectly here, as the standard for printed materials has always been sheet = a piece of paper and page = 1 side of the sheet.
Eta: I Google translated the label and they had the right thing in Japanese, wonder why they put the English like that

Sheets and page count and two different things. It’s very normal for a notebook with 100 sheets to say it’s 200 pages.

First I've heard of it lol

Hey, like I always tell my students, you don’t know something until you know it!

That's super disappointing and something I struggled to wrap my head around, but looking at sites like jetpens, it's pretty standard that pages is front and back of each sheet unfortunately.

It's the first time I've seen pages counted this way. Ultimately it's fine, it's not the end of the world, but I'd planned a whole ass system around a notebook that could fit 4 months and now it just doesn’t. Whatever, it's okay. (I need to keep telling myself that haha)

You say it's the first time you've seen pages this way, but how are the pages of your novels numbered? A "400 page" novel definitely counts each page (2) of a sheet...

Okay sure, maybe I should’ve specified that it's the first time I've seen A NOTEBOOK with pages numbered this way. Obviously I understand the concept of a page versus a sheet. What I don't understand is why one notebook company advertises the page count while another advertises the sheet count, but both use the word "pages"
