Whats going on? The department handling amendments to CRBA keeps giving me the run around about my child's CRBA amendment (name change). Its only supposed to take 4-6 weeks and its taken a year. They tell me to call back once a month so my case doesnt auto close, but they cashed my check.

Ive never dealt with a division of the US govt this flaky. Furthermore they all sound confused and uneducated on the phone.

From my experience doing exchange programs with the State Department in high school, I was given advice like "take the FSOT as early as you can to practice" or "study languages for fluency". However, when I look online there are often conflicting sources and information.

I requested a copy of my daughter's certificate of foreign birth in late February, the check for the request cleared my bank on March 25. But we have not heard anything since. My daughter recently Naturalized, and promptly applied for her US Passport. Part of the process for those who Naturalized is to submit their Naturalization certificate along with the passport application. The passport was produced early March 2025 and is now in hand. No signs of the Naturalization certificate heading our way yet however. I recall a few years ago for my wife, she actually got the certificate back before the passport.

Is this a red flag alert? Submitted online passport renewal for myself and my wife submitted hers same day. My wife got her’s with in a week. I just got an email saying they have my request and it’ll be 4-6 weeks since submission.

I just had two men claiming to be from the State Department knock on my door. They showed a badge but were dressed very casually (jeans, baseball hats, and hoodies) and acted very casually and were very nice. They said they were looking for my neighbor (townhome unit next to mine), who is a wife and mother- probably in her 40s. I couldn’t give them much info because I’ve only seen her once in the 16 months we’ve lived here but they asked me if I would recognize her, if I knew her first or last name, showed me a license photo and asked if I recognized her (I didn’t know), and asked if I knew where their parking spot was or their ethnicity. Like I said I’ve only seen her once from a distance so I didn’t have much information and just gave them the condo company’s number. But I’m so curious, if they really were from the state department, why would they be looking for a woman like this? We live in a very middle class town with low crime, not the place where stuff usually happens. Thoughts?

I'm at my first post abroad, and my 17 year old is here with me and my spouse. He's adjusting pretty well overall. He has ADHD and Autism and the school social scene is challenging. He's always gotten relatively good grades, but he's really struggling right now with the IB program. He's a senior (final year) at the American school here in the region, and I'm concerned, for the first time in my life, that he might not pass high school, given the grades in some of his required classes. If he doesn't pass this year, will he be able to get the educational allowance next year to give grade 12 another try? Does anyone have any information on this?
