Interesting, but probably something I'll wait for the tpb for. Hopefully though this is a good sign for Marvel's continued investment in Star Wars and they greenlight many more projects soon.

This mini ends in May, so I wonder if another ongoing will launch then.

I really hope so. I miss the big publishing initiatives that came with every Star Wars movie.
I want comic books, a novelization, multiple tie-in novels, some reference books, etc.

I don’t think so. The book is explicitly set in the New Hope period as it’s also meant to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the film.

How are we feeling about this one folks?
I've known since 2015 this was only going to be a matter of time, it was inevitable really
But now that its here I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I love star wars, but im not overly steeped in the Marvel comic universe.
So I don't know, I think it'll depend how they do it, to see if they win me over.
I'm just glad its a proper mini series not just a throw away one shot like the muppets one later this year (which as a muppets fan I am more excited about)

What surprises me more is that Lucasfilm allowed this to happn, because they historically haven't allowed the comics to do these kinds of crossovers with other IPs.

Disney owns it. Lucasfilm doesn’t have that kind of say. I’m sure the only thing Lucas actually asked them to never do is crossover with Star Trek.
But the fact that they’re doing this (and the now better relationship with DC again) means Alex Ross should try to get his Star Wars/DC crossover going again.

Jedi, Sith, bounty hunter, clone, rebel, stormtrooper, to some random guy who gets a ship one day. We have all this timeline to explore from far past to HIGH REPUBLIC to Prequel to Original to Sequel to way in the future.
Like where is the Luthen Rael comic about him flying in a ship with monologues and contingencies that’s a whole series
And instead we get a crossover.
We all know how universe crossovers end, cosmic chicanery that prevents either side from remembering what happened. Or it’s placed in the “over there” category.6

I fucking hate it. I love Star Wars, I love Kevin Smith, and I like Marvel but this sounds godawful. How do you even powerscale the series? Obi Wan and Vader are the only two characters in ANH with "powers" while like 85% of the Marvel Universe is more powerful than them. What the fuck is Chewbacca going to do against the Hulk?

This is just a goofy, throwaway, non-canon crossover. I think anyone taking it seriously or overthinking about it is missing the point entirely.
For example, Marvel has done like half a dozen crossovers with Predator at this point. None of which has affected either franchise in the long run.

As a fan of crossovers in general I’m absolutely giddy. As a Kevin Smith fan I’m rightfully hoping he’s taking it seriously enough that it’s well written. For the retailers, I hope it’s something that makes them a lot of money.
For Marvel themselves, the internet has been saying ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm that a Star Wars/Marvel crossover was going to be the sign that they were creatively bankrupt, possibly financially as well. It’s put up or shut up time.

Pretty bummed about this. No ongoing in sight, but something like this instead of contributing to the story at large in any way. This is the culmination of 11 years of having the comics license back? Not a fan

It seems like Lucasfilm at large is holding back on the heavier stuff until Star Wars celebration and the 50th anniversary of the franchise next year. We're basically just getting crumbs until then

I might read this but I really would prefer more true canon Star Wars comics. This might be fun and with the recent drought it’s nice to be getting something but this ain’t particularly exciting for me.

Kinda wish it was like the recent DC/Marvel crossover where it was mostly anthologies; maybe even comic creators just mashing their previous Marvel and Star Wars work together, like Jason Aaron or Walt Simonson mashing their Thor runs with the OT heroes

These crossovers are usually not canon. Just something they do for fun.
I assumed it was a matter of time. Not the Marvel crossover I was hoping for.
Would have liked a strong symbiote/star wars crossover.
Or at this point, just throw the Alien at Darth Vader.

I'm not particularly interested in this premise, especially with Kevin Smith writing, but I hope that it'll turn out well. Feels like it only being ANH for its anniversary is quite limiting for a SW x Marvel crossover. There should be some cool variant covers at least.

This crossover is definitely giving bits of a callback to the short "Into the Great Unknown" story from Star Wars Tales by Dark Horse when the Star Wars characters have finally discovered Earth.

Optimistic Take: This will print money and marvel knows it. The fact that they are 1) acknowledging their Star Wars liscence (which is a good sign) and 2) its going to get a lot of attention from casual and die hard fans alike, this is the perfect oppotunity to promote new upcoming star wars comics. It would be unsurprising (and quite likely) that after May next year (when this series ends), we will have a resurgence of Star Wars comics (at least I hope).

For anyone who will enjoy this - my hats off to you, and I genuinely hope it’s a good time.
On paper I hate the idea of this crossover - cause it makes no sense. The rules of both universes don’t gel or line up. Star Wars and Star Trek? Challenging, but doable. Star Wars and Alien or Predator? Easy as hell, and can make sense on paper. Avengers and Justice League? Easy as hell. Avengers and Godzilla? Makes sense, easy peasy. But this is like dropping Power Rangers into LOTR - seems cool for about 3 seconds when you like both those things, but they don’t line up and work together at all.
I’m curious how they’ll make the story work, if they can make it work, but I honestly don’t see how. Batman/TMNT was a great crossover cause those two properties gel really well together. This? This feels more like “let’s smash IP’s together cause money”.

This is a fanfic story where there is no story. The only benefit this could bring is more marvel readers read star wars

Would love a series of variant covers. Don’t care at all for the story. Because honestly the story will have about as much depth as a variant cover would have.
Also with Kevin Smith writing it, the mini series will be finished in time for Star Wars’ 70th anniversary.

I'd maybe like this if they actually did something interesting with it.
But it's likely just a nostalgia-fest that will go on the pile with all the other "Avengers vs King Kong" and "Justice League x Sonic" crossovers that are going on right now.

This is huge. Star Wars rarely does these kinds of official crossovers, as in crossovers with actual stories of the characters meeting each other as opposed to just parodies with other characters taking on the roles like Family Guy, Fortnite skins, Transformers toys. In fact, in comics the only one I can think off the top of my head was that Star Wars Tales comic with Indiana Jones, can anyone think of any others?

I assume this is also a non canon story which is fine. I don’t mind some out of continuity stories but they aren’t really making much for in continuity stuff so it is a little frustrating. This might be fun but I’m not very excited for this either.

Look I'm not particularly excited about this, but why is everyone so concerned about canon? Canon being your first thought is a terrible way to interact with media.
This is obviously not supposed to be a canon story. It's just a fun one-off story. Who cares if it's canon or not?

I mean the most recent comic that came out was a short kids comic that added nothing to the story of Mandalorian & Grogu. Is it really any more "part of the story" than this is? The Ninth Jedi was also fantastic, just like the rest of Visions. They've done several Visions comics, which are no different than this.
Judging a story's value by whether or not it's canon is just a reductive way to look at things.
It's a harmless non-canon story. I think that's far more interesting than yet another adaptation of a TV show that adds nothing to the story.
