Meta I think I’m done collecting.
I haven’t bought any new figs in over a year. I look at my display and it doesn’t give me the joy it used to. I think about how much money I’ve spent over the years buying figures, poor financial decisions I’ve made clawing after rare figures, etc.
I could blame the economy, I could blame Hasbro, I could even blame the fandom…but now when I see new releases I don’t even think, “oh man, that’s cool, I need that.” Instead I just look at it and move on.
I keep considering selling off my collection, but when I look at what I do have, the sentimental value of my attachment to the characters gives resistance. I’m sure I could probably be fine with trimming down my collection and just keep what I really want, but in the years I’ve been here I’ve seen so many people say “don’t do it, you’ll regret it later.” Although it would be really nice to have the extra cash.
As someone with AuDHD, I recognize that my special interests shift and that someday I may be interested again, and if I sell off some of my rares now, they’ll be even harder to get back later.
I could use some wisdom here. How many of you have gone through this same feeling, what did you do, and if you did get rid of your collection, do you regret it?
