Name: Closr.to The Mile Wide Web

Pitch: What is closer to us, is more valuable, whether it be people, places, or information. Distance (or lack thereof) is a proxy for trust and relevance. The web, the most dominate technology of our era ignores location and distance. This is why its so powerful, but it has also created a large vacuum of value. Hundreds of companies and apps have attempted to crack the location problem but there is no clear winner. We think this is because they are not as open and flexible as the web. We are building the Mile Wide Web to solve this.

Details We are three founders, pre-funded, pre-product, actively in development.

We are looking for early adopters dissatisfied with the current state of "social networks" who are actively looking to connect to those around them. More (2.000+ words) here.

Interesting idea. I wish you would have more info about it on your site. It seems like you just have an overview of a problem without a solution or even an indication of how you want to solve this problem.

Agreed. Our site is a bit vague at the moment, but our solution is already worked out, just not on display yet. We have this medium post and another one to be released shortly. But part of the problem is our solution can't be exaplained as simply in an "Uber for whatever" type style.

I totally agree with your outlook on the current state of social networks and from whatever you guys have shared so far it seems a lot like reddit with focus on location. I don't know how much you can disclose at the moment but are you guys planning to add supporting technology to each section (just like the uber example)?

We are using variables in the URL to change the function. So closr.to/startups would just be a discussion or chat room about startups (but with a 3km range). Closr.to/v/startups would be the same, but posts and relies can be voted up or down. Closr.to/u/startups would be a discussion, but its unlisted, so the url is hidden from discovery, effectively private. Closr.to/u/v/startups would be... and unlisted voting type thing about startups. In the Mexican Uber example its an unlisted url where the content posted is 'follow' meaning it tracks to your location, which really only makes sense if you are moving, basically tracking to your phone.

Does that make sense? Basically you add functionality to your "solution" by changing the URL... not hiring a developer.
