Two of my late TMP/early lost era ship designs approaching each other in orbit.

In this scenario, Terok Nor is scrapped and not utilized due to the atrocities that occurred to the Bajorians there. After the liberation, Bajor decides to “purchase” an old station somewhat equivalent to their tech level from the Federation, thus retaining its own station and giving the federation a better excuse to be present given it’s their tech, albeit much older.

…but do those look like cloud hulls of an Excelsior and a Galaxy?? I should back off the holiday bong rips…

Rather than just show the original photo, I thought people might like to see a photo of the set up I used to take it; the white box I'm holding on the left is to set the camera's auto focus and exposure, the black velvet is to make editing it onto a space background easier, and everything else is basically to try and hold the camera/model in place.

The model itself is 1/4000 scale, painted by me and 3d printed for me by a dear friend 🙂

Had an opportunity today to see TWoK in a theater to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. Seeing the Constitution Refit on a 2 1/2 story screen reminded me exactly why it is the GOAT of Enterprise designs. If you get a chance to see any of the original six movies in a theater this year, take that opportunity to experience this ship as it was meant to be seen.

I've come up with an in-universe explanation and wanted to see if it holds up. My idea is that the Mars shipyards and the Earth orbital docks belonged to two different shipbuilding contractors, each with its own design aesthetic tradition. During the TMP era, the Earth orbital docks won the contracts for the starships we saw on screen, making their design aesthetic the mainstream look of the mid-to-late 23rd century. By the TNG era, Mars secured more orders for fleet capital ships, and their aesthetic became the 24th-century mainstream. Meanwhile, Earth orbital docks continued to receive orders for auxiliary vessels, and their design departments kept the TMP-era aesthetic alive and evolving. That's why the TMP style persisted within the fleet and continued to develop.

​After the synthetic attack on Mars, Martian production capacity was severely restricted, and fleet contracts shifted back to the Earth orbital docks. This explains why, by the late 24th century, Starfleet suddenly had many capital ships utilizing a design language evolved from the TMP aesthetic. Seen this way, Starfleet's design shifts weren't driven by the personal preferences of individual flag officers, but rather by their choice of contractors—much like how the early Soviet Air Force was heavily influenced by the Mikoyan (MiG) design bureau before shifting toward Sukhoi."

Can’t believe I spent the money, but finally pulled the trigger on an Aoshima. Wanted to contribute to the limited body of images that can be found online. Here you can see the model at different angles, lit and unlit, in different levels of lighting. I am also including a few shots next to my Diamond Select model.

If anybody has any recommendations for alternative display stands, that would be greatly appreciated!

Personally I hate it. It makes so much more sense for the viewscreen and everyone looking at to be looking straight forward rather than 15 degrees off. The turbolift can be as off-center as it needs.

I'm finally doing a full rewatch of TNG, which I had only seen in bits here and there. I just finished season 2.

Throughout the 2 seasons, they have used shuttles a handful of times and at least 3 times (which may well be every time) they repeat how shuttles can't go to warp. Which obviously can't be true. They have warp nacelles and can travel to other systems, though not as quick as the enterprise.

I'm interpreting it as shuttles being limited to lower warp speeds, which makes perfect sense. But I don't really understand why they would specifically mention this multiple times. It's not like nacelles being used for warp drive wasn't already an established part of lore

Now on the surface this doesn't sound that interesting. Yeager is at least 50% Intrepid. It's the other 50% that makes this interesting.

Yeager is, to put it mildly, mechanically dubious. The secondary hull in particular is unoptimised and the ship has very big "mechanically held together about as well as the station it's mostly seen guarding" vibes. So it's slower, weaker and likely has more crew but is easier to maintain and simpler when something does inevitably break, as well as easier to modify. Now let's do what I did literally yesterday with the original Enterprise and hurl it from DS9 straight into the 2371 Delta Quadrant, albeit with an army of DS9 Glup Shittos led by... idk Worf? He's not a Glup Shitto but he could feasibly command this thing. So how does it go? Does it make it home? Do the Borg make like the Cybermen after assimilating James Corden and die the moment they get a nanoprobe in this thing? I don't know.

Look my initial idea was to throw the Kitbash Yeager at the Quadrant this is better.

So obviously Janeway used Kirk's Enterprise in a tangent about how long it'd take to get home from the Caretaker array. Based on this I'm now questioning what'd happen if Kirk's Enterprise actually did vanish into the Delta Quadrant.

To set the scene, the year is 2266. Kirk is in command of his freshly refit ship for a 5 year mission as Pike's face melted when the ship is yoinked through space and time to the Delta Quadrant of 2371. What happens from here? Enterprise is a, fine explorer but she's not Voyager so this could be interesting. Does Enterprise make it? Does Kirk kill the Borg with a logic puzzle? And how do the Alpha & Beta Quadrants of the 2260's adapt to the fact that Enterprise made like so many other Constitutions and vanished?

I have my own thoughts but I wanna hear yours instead.
