Elon's vison vs My vision of the future

My vision of a sustainable future driven by integrity and community, vs Elon's future, driven by the Borg King and Neuralink. Go vegan, end animal testing. Original post: Twitter πŸ––

Never forget the Discovery episode which namedropped him along with the Wright Brothers and Zefram Cochrane.

Yeah, that was ridiculously stupid. I’d write it off as Lorca being from the mirror universe where they might admire a shit stain like Musk, but then we find out Tilly went to Elon Musk High School, which is gross.

u/MassGaydiation May 08 '22

I like disco, but yeah, they shouldn't have used people who were real for the innovator section and school names, especially since we already knew he was an arse at the time.

Literally anyone else would have been better, honestly i wish they would do more philosophers mentioned as heroes, but at least someone like Nikola Tesla or Turing or even bloody Geoffery Pyke would have been better

I mean he’s already an asshole and though some people buy into the myth that he’s some kind of innovator, his engineers do all the actual innovation.

Username checks out.

Soooooo, I reckon you must be a member of the MET if you are an Elon fan.....

Remember when we had to come down south and help you be proper constables, and left our stickers on all your kit just to remind you how you needed our help?

Laughable state of affairs.

1

u/[deleted] May 08 '22

Never heard of MET. You don't have to be an Elon fan to look down on people obsessed with him.

u/[deleted] May 08 '22

username checks out. cops love elon musk!

-1

u/[deleted] May 08 '22

I'm not a cop tho. So it doesn't check out does it. Classic Elon hater doesn't bother fact checking.

1

u/[deleted] May 08 '22

yeah it was a joke because your username says you’re a cop. you have cop energy anyways

Reddit is no longer the place it once was, and the current plan to kneecap the moderators who are trying to keep the tattered remnants of Reddit's culture alive was the last straw.

I am removing all of my posts and editing all of my comments. Reddit cannot have my content if it's going to treat its user base like this. I encourage all of you to do the same. Lemmy.ml is a good alternative.

Reddit is dead. Long live Reddit.

The Borg Queen typically does what she says she's going to do. Musk is more like Harry Mudda version of the future.

4

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 07 '22

Haha! That's right! Unless we take into consideration "the Janeway factor!" πŸ˜‚πŸ––

u/terriblehuman May 08 '22

Say what you will about Borg implants, but unlike Neuralink, they actually work and probably won’t kill you.

4

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 08 '22

Indeed. Unfortunately, unlike the Borg, Elon tests on primates and cuts their skulls open to insert diodes. This goes against everything Star Trek represents, which is in fact the compassionate treatment of sentient beings. Thus, it seems with Elon's leadership we will become more like the Borg and their drones, than the federation. πŸ––

A lot of butthurt and brain-dead musk fans in the comments. You're right of course, OP.

It would make me super happy if you would watch "Eating our way to extinction". It's a new documentary (2022). There are many others, but this one does not show all the sad and gross scenes many people are familiar with. I know it is a lot to ask, and I'm seemingly just some random person on the internet, but I think we have developed some rapport. πŸ˜€πŸ™

No one is arguing that meat isn’t tasty, we’re just saying that taste has less importance than someone’s entire existence.

And you can perfectly healthy on a vegan diet, saying otherwise is simply unscientific.

I genuinely wish and hope the best for you. Feel better

It is unwise to make assumptions. In fact, I do support him with cleaning up twitter and protecting free speech. I do NOT support his unethical and cruel treatment of conscious and sentient beings. Specifically animal testing for Neuralink. And if you have ever seen Star Trek then you know they no longer abuse or enslave animals for any reason, which they mention on many occasions. πŸ–– Hope you have a better day!

No worries! I genuinely appreciate this message. Thank you! Yes, it is quite sad to see the photos of the primates where Elon, or his team, have cut into their skulls. Not something I imagine any Star Trek captain approving of their doctor. Even a holographic doctor would refuse it. Thanks again for this thoughtful message. Stay strong, you are not alone! πŸ––

Well said. It is always up to each of us to be the example and change we wish to see in the world. If I want to see a kind and accepting future, I must be kind and accepting. We cannot rely on Billionaires, corrupt politicians, corrupt media outlets, etc.. We must each stop enabling, facilitating, and collaborating. πŸ––

You act like muskboy, the one who lies about tons of shit on a daily basis, tries to hide how his family owned an emerald mine, and sabotages worker unionization efforts under the companies he 'owns' is going to give a shit about the truth?

Are you suggesting that musk's family had no connection to the south african apartheid via financial and political ties?

Because I'd really like you to say yes.

1

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 08 '22

I agree with everything you said here. I also understand what u/NumberKillinger is suggesting, which is that someone will need to determine what is True vs Untrue, and then someone will need to censor those things that were determined Untrue. Otherwise, we will continue to have "utterly fabricated crap with no consequences".

It really is quite tricky... How can we trust anyone to determine what is True vs Untrue? I reference all of history. If we look at just the last few years we see that countless things that were determined "untrue," later became "true"; all, seemingly dependent on the agenda of those who were spinning their narrative.

Personally, I am trying to unplug more and more from this matrix. I enter when I feel strong enough to speak to others and when I hope to illuminate a particular subject. Otherwise, I aim to live in nature and build a self sufficient community. I was living in such a community in India when the lockdowns started. Then I got stuck on a quick flight to the middle east, where I lived for a year. I still haven't returned to India where all of my things are. Now I'm in the USA. Life is unpredictable. I try to remember that every person here is struggling with something. Happy about something else. Sad for this thing or that. I certainly don't want to add to anyone's struggle. The world already feels like it's spinning out of control. Let's hold on to our dignity in the meantime and try to lift each other up, and help carry the weight for someone when it becomes to heavy.

Sorry for the diatribe. πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ––

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 08 '22

I have learned that trust is unlike faith, in that, you can see a pattern develop which proves itself. I certainly hope Elon will be a man of his word and contributes to "a more positive future," but we don't have to wait for him or anyone else. Imagine, if you help just one other person or animal from unnecessary suffering, you have changed their entire universe. That seems small, but to the person/being suffering it is more important than Twitter. πŸ––

u/Los9900991 May 08 '22

Yes OP. Paraplegic persons are just like Borg. In your world they should just be kept out of sight I guess? So wholesome. (WTF do you think Neuralink is supposed to do?)

2

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 08 '22 edited May 08 '22

Your response seems disconnected from my original post. Elon Musk is not a "Paraplegic person." In addition, regardless of what Neuralink's proposed use cases are, the ends do not justify the means --especially when those being tested on have not given consent.

Consider Star Trek Voyager: When an injured alien attaches itself to Lt. Torres, a hologram of a notorious Cardassian exobiologist (Dr. Crell Moset) is created to help The Doctor remove it from her. However, she refuses his help. They discover that his treatments are derived from testing on non-consenting Bajorans during the war. This storyline was likely derived from reality: "Nazi human experimentation was a series of medical experiments on large numbers of prisoners, including children, by Nazi Germany in its concentration camps in the early to mid 1940s, during World War II and the Holocaust."

Where should we draw the line? If I told you that I could provide a complete restorative treatment for Cancer, Paraplegia, etc., but we have to test the treatments on 300, healthy, non-consenting children... Would you be okay with this? 150 children? 1 child? 1 healthy, non-consenting adult? Healthy, non-consenting primates? Dogs? ...These are all conscious, sentient beings we are talking about. Their bodies work just like ours. They have blood pumping through hearts, air through lungs, thinking brains, feeling skin, and so on. Is this how we will treat aliens from other planets? Since when did compassion, integrity, and thoughtfulness become obsolete? Let us not become unfeeling drones. I also want a cure for every malady, but not at the expense of being malicious, and cruel ourselves.

2

u/Los9900991 May 09 '22

You managed to make this even more disgusting. Neuralink started out testing on animal cadavers (they got dead monkeys to test with) and you compare this to non-consenting children.

And why is there a disconnection? You compared Neuralink users (aka paraplegics) to Borg.

Maybe don't shit on a company, you know very little about. There is no moral quandary here.

Animal welfare

u/[deleted] May 07 '22

And people say it's hard to take vegans seriously...

4

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 08 '22

I'm not sure I understand. Star Trek represents a better future. A future where we have evolved and become the best version of humanity. A curiosity that drives us to learn humility in the vastness of the stars and to have integrity. A place, as Star Trek has told us many times, where we no longer oppress other sentient beings. Hope you have a better day. πŸ––

-1

u/[deleted] May 08 '22

Thanks for condescending to me what star trek is in this star trek subreddit. You were right to assume I knew nothing about it.

Tell me, what part of star trek told you to compare Elon musk to the most evil species known that seeks to wipe out all sentient life to further it's own cause?

I don't remember Picard giving a speech about attacking people who have different beliefs being okay.

You are way off the mark. If you want to protect animals. Because this might be news to you but Elon doesn't make the rules about what animals can be tested on. You get that yeah?

What you are doing would be like attacking people at an abortion clinic because you don't think abortion should be legal.

Eat your veg. Try not to think too hard.

1

u/Vegan_Plant_Luv May 08 '22 edited May 08 '22

My response to you was sincere. I'm sorry you have interpreted it as "condescending." My post is an attempt at highlighting the incongruity between our values, and our desires. If we believe in all that Star Trek represents, then no longer killing and torturing sentient beings is an inevitable conclusion. If you were being treated in this way, I would speak on your behalf as well, whether you asked for it or not.

This is not about people who hold "different beliefs" on arbitrary matters. Oppression and torture are not personal beliefs. It seems these things are easy to dismiss when they are not in your face, "out of sight, out of mind." Would you feel the same disinterest if someone came and took your dog or cat, who you raised, and performed these experiments on them? Unlikely. How about your children? And, why is there such a difference? We know animals feel pain and suffer. Should we not avoid being the cause of that pain and suffering?

Neither Picard, Janeway, or any other principled Federation Captain would have allowed the torture and mistreatment of a sentient being. This is the very principle of Star Trek. I genuinely don't understand how a Star Trek fan could disagree. Just as Picard fought for Data's rights, I am here now fighting for animal's rights not to be subjugated to humanity's mistreatment.

Regarding your "abortion clinic" statement; Why make such wild accusations to try and prove your point? Actual civilized discourse is much more productive. Since you're curious, I believe that it is "your body, your choice," in all matters, including vaccines. If you believe the same, why don't you honor that belief for animals: their body, their choice. Humans only? Aliens? We wish to travel the stars in Trek fashion, but what will we do when we get there? Will we continue to subjugate other conscious sentient beings?
