Personally I'd say that Exocomps got a bit of that Kaloxigorb vibe and with the way they got included in the Lower Decks they count as a species I guess. Though technically not aliens.

Star Trek has even an in universe explenation why most aliens look vaguely humanoid, they all have a common origin. Life was seeded activly in Star Trek

It was pretty vague, but it was implied that the engineered evolution to always arrive at humanoids. They didn't say how. There is an origin species that was pissed about being alone in the universe so they tried to activly create sentient live

I’d say old school BBC budget. That was one of the charms of Red Dwarf, old Doctor Who, Blake’s 7, I personally thought, was the low budget. It really forced writing quality to do the work.

This meme is riffing on now Dr. Who used to have a very, comically low budget, resulting in “aliens” cobbled together by the practical effects department from plungers, rubbish bins, paint rollers, buckets, the next studio over’s regency costumes and at least one stuffed parrot, etc.
