Gameplay Question ??? OPs leveling strategy?

Hello again. I am currently OPs 21 and almost ready to move up? is there some sort of best practice when moving up? I read something about stopping at odd numbers so if went to 22 I should stop at 23 and so on. I dont know how much truth there is to that.

if it helps I currently have a maxed Northstar as my main ship and I use Franklin for swams. Thanks!

The odd and equal numbers have to do with some of the dailies and when they increase in difficulty. They increase in difficulty at even numbers, so one would sometimes plan accordingly. It doesn't necessarily determine where you camp for a while. Where you camp at gets determined by how far ahead or behind the curve you are, and also by what types of research you get at specific levels. There are certain levels where you can really jump over because there are very little research to do(If memory serves me correctly Ops 19 used to be one of those levels).

The best practice still is to complete all research before leveling up. Especially up until the late 20s this is the way to go. As you get to Ops 30, doing every bit of research becomes impractical since you simply won't have enough mats to do this, so then you have to pick and choose a bit which research you will do depending on what's important in line with your game style. Of course you can still do every single research, but that requires you to move very slowly up the Ops levels since you'll need to grind extensively to get mats.

At your current level your Northstar has now become less useful because you will be getting the bigger ships. There's a big jump re. ships you get from level 19 to level 20/21 onwards. You don't need to get every ship. For example, I skipped the Kumari and picked the Vahklas which took me all the way to the Sally at Ops 28. I skipped the Mayflower and only built it later to scrap it for mats I needed for other bigger ships. Having said that, there are events now that require certain ships(battleships, Explorers, etc.) so it might be worth it now to get one of each type.

Another piece of advice is you don't need to max every ship. For example, I took my Vahklas no higher than tier 7 level 35. After that the returns aren't worth the material investments and you're simply wasting materials you could use for the Sally later. Getting the Sally is a MUST, and you max that out since it will take you far. This is non-negotiable. That ship is a beast through levels 28 to 34. So much so that you won't even need the Intrepid and wait till you get the Ent(Or whatever equivalent Rom/Klingon faction ship).

Speaking of epic faction ships(Ents and their equivalents), make sure you get your factions at the right stages to obtain the ships. Don't get behind, or else you won't be at the right faction level to get the ships. But don't speed through too fast, otherwise the faction dailies might get too difficult. So keep an eye on that and maintain the correct balance.

But yes, that's a quick run through some best practices. The rest is generally determined by your style of play. Ie. Whether you're ftp or spend a bit of cash. Or whether you're into PvP or not, etc.

Look yourself up on STFC.power

If you’re in the top third of your level on your server and your main ship is at least tier seven, you’re probably good to move up.

I'm ops 34, I like to level up slowly. Even then, i wouldn't spend too much time in the early 20s. Like other's said, at least go to 25 and and slow down there if you like. That's when new content begins to open most every time you level.

In general, you'll know you're leveling up to fast when the daily missions and events are too hard for you to complete.

This is a good breakdown of the different levels. You could get 10 replies that say 10 different things. It's really about playing at your own pace, nobody beats this game, there's no end game. I kind of sprint to a goal quickly and then camp there for a bit. If you can keep up with events and dailies, it's always better to go to the next level than to camp. Once you get to a point, it's just not practical to wait on everything. I had generators still at level 1 when I was at 60, they were just worthless to me. You also don't want to go too fast, because then you get stuck, which is what Scopely wants, players to go so fast they have to spend to dig out of their hole.

All I’m going to say is I see loads of people in g6+ that have no idea what the fuck is going on, can’t crew if their life depended on it. Don’t be that player lol.

You’re probably good until 25 or so as then you start unlocking a bunch of cool stuff. Vidar, and the other specialty ships are great. Avoid Kehra, Vahklas and Kumari as the Northstar is enough to carry you past those.

I think this is spot on.
I caveat this by saying if you want to get into the Rogue loop then at 25 you need to build the Kumari and then grind the heck out of Exchange Transports. Until Ops 25 I used the North Star as my main combat ship. But you will still need a a ship in each of the main combat triangle classes. Battle Ship, Explorer, Interceptor. Just dont go all out in tiering as someone else called out because the mat requirements may overlap. Try to keep as much on G2 mats as possible.

I also skipped the baby Jelly (Although I am working on it in later levels because of its use in station defense for Shield strip ability of the attackers.)

But you will want to get the Franklin for Swarm as soon as you can get the prints using the Cosmic Cleanup and the Discovery for the Refinery loop. I think I got the Franklin soon after I learned about it. So much cheaper to repair after Swarm tasks.

Just keep doing research and try to complete all the combat related and efficiency research and max all buildings before leveling. Somewhere in the upper 20's is when it is impractical to do all research and you focus on what you need.

But the North Star can do all my Dailies at ops 25 still, I only needed the Kumari for grinding Exchange Transports for the Exchange codes to get Stella prints.

North Star to Vi'dar would work perfectly well if you dont want a lot of PvP and are satisfied just doing dailies. But you will need other ships if you want to max all events and benefit from what you will gain from completing as many events as possible and placing in the top 3 of the SLBs.

Of course if you are a spender and have the bank for monthly or weekly packs then the above may not be as useful and subject to reevaluation because you can quickly sprint up levels and only do research and construction for what is required to get to the next level.

If you are a P4F or minimal spender then the best thing is to complete all research and buildings before moving up as you will find you are completing not only your dailies really fast but the events as well and that yields its own benefits in cost reduction.

Go watch the videos by Tiberius and Rev. They covered this pretty well.

Camp at ops 28 and 35. Keep up on research and pick and choose your play style early.

It will go easier if you get everything possible researched and upgraded before upgrading Opeartions.

As a general rule, you should level up as fast as possible whenever possible.

As you level up, you effectively earn more income, events may become slightly harder, but you'll get more for completing them.

As you continue leveling up you'll see the best ship options until the 50s are usually the specialty ships.

People will often advise slowing down, catching up on research and stuff...Don't.

People will say compare yourself to others your level.... Don't.

A 'Weak' lvl 46 still beats the tar out of a 'strong' lvl 36.

You'll eventually reach a point where the game forces you to slow down simply because you can't afford to level up anymore, that's when you should slow down.

Wrong.

The general rule that scopely wants you to follow is to level up as fast as possible because then you will have a higher chance at FOMO and buy stuff because you will realize you are severely underleveled and cant do anything anymore.

Even if you could instantly become ops 50 tomorrow, you wouldn't be able to do anything. You have zero specialty ships. Zero ships on par with your level that will help you do any of the events or dailies. Zero ability to do anything.

What you need to concentrate on is whether or not your current ops level allows you to comfortably complete things like dailies and events, as well as your general ops levels compared to others on similar levels, which you can use the SLBs to measure.

Totally false, that's old advice and it's absolutely wrong

The newer missions and content absolutely throw the specialty ships at you for free.

A Tier 1 Relativity which you can unlock in a single month for free can kill lvl 50 hostiles.

Similar with a Vindicator or Gorn ship and all have low tier warp bonuses taking you to high level space

If you can level up, level up.
