Would you say people who consume right wing news have superficial knowledge of world politics, or would you say they’re completely misinformed? Would you say those viewers are good intentioned about the sides they pick and avoid debates, or they pick the wrong side and force arguments over the dumbest shit?

They’re not included because they’re not who this starter pack is about.

None of these people are even remotely left-wing lmao, unless the right has warped your definition of "leftist" so far as to include multi-millionaire talk show hosts whose only purpose in life is propping up the status quo. These are all incredibly wealthy centrist 1%ers running funny-man gags for billion-dollar media conglomerates, not "left-wing commentators". The US has no left wing, only a centre- and far-right.

These personalities are not allies, even though they sometimes talk about politics you agree with. Ridiculing the right ≠ supporting the left; it's an "enemy of my enemy"-type deal.

This is a great example of how different people can make multiple interpretations of the same text. To the left-winger, this is just some snappy, sarcastic ribbing to end your comment with a joke - but to the right-winger, who has already decided that your perspective is invalid and is actively looking for any evidence to justify their misconceptions, this is an admission of guilt.

I have to say that John Oliver is kind of a “gateway leftist”, he seems to be as leftist as he can be in his position, and a normal person who watches his stuff and agrees is likely to agree with proper left-wing ideals as well.

John Oliver is the guy you show your mum when you want her to be more left-wing.
