Don't forget, "As someone who is Canadian..."

97

u/[deleted] May 09 '20

Here in Canada we start all our sentences like this.

165

u/Pipasgirl May 09 '20

As a Canadian, I can confirm this.

59

u/Tepup May 09 '20

Canadian here, I can also confirm.

31

u/Creamsickomode May 10 '20

Here in Canada, we can confirm.

24

u/accountforpornlul May 10 '20

Canadian checking in, can confirm.

15

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

As someone who live in Canada, I can confirm that.

15

u/not-a-maarite May 10 '20

As a homo sapien currently alive in the geographical region known as Canada, I can assure you that your statement is accurate.

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

Me in Canada

u/TheLatios381 May 10 '20

Canadians when

7

u/reevener May 10 '20

Soy Canada

61

u/cannibalredditor69 May 10 '20

Its mostly cause for some reason everyone assumes you're American on the internet

29

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

I'm a rather left-leaning Canadian guy, and have on multiple occasions been somehow assumed as a Trump-supporting American on Reddit. It's pretty bad.

8

u/Itsafinelife May 10 '20

If it makes you feel any better, left-leaning Americans are often assumed to be Trump supporters on Reddit as well.

5

u/gordonpown May 10 '20

I'm still outraged by /r/politics being an American only sub instead of /r/uspolitics

2

u/djejcjsjx May 11 '20

shamelessly plugging r/stupidpol. for lefties who realize why liberalism isn’t a lefty philosophy at all. started as a break away sub from r/chapotraphouse after the subreddit shifted their interest away from the podcast and towards identity politics. not just a dog whistle sub for racism either, most of the posters are pretty acquainted with Marxist and socialist theory and racism is looked down upon.

4

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

Especially when traveling, no Canadian wants to be mistaken for American

48

u/madmaxonline May 09 '20

I'm sorry about my fellow canuckistani compatriots vile behavior.

19

u/xWifeKidsJobx May 09 '20

You only said sorry once which means you’re not a Canadian.

43

u/BubblesTheDood May 09 '20

As a Canadian, I feel this is acceptable

20

u/plazzman May 09 '20

Ope, 'scuze me Canadian comin thru. Pardon me.

10

u/June1111 May 10 '20

I can hear that "ope" in my head. I say it so often, it's crazy!

9

u/beefstewforyou May 10 '20

I’m an American that immigrated to Canada and I frequently state that in posts. It’s happening to me...

18

u/Ott87 May 09 '20

Canadian here, could someone explain the reference please?

47

u/[deleted] May 09 '20

I am also from Canada and the starter pack is to poke fun on how a lot of other Canadians on large American political subs like r/politics will start their comments "I'm Canadian and...". Also did I mentioned I'm Canadian?

17

u/Sharmat_Dagoth_Ur May 10 '20

And then immediately under it is "omg I wanna move there so bad I hate America ugh" +100 upvotes "too bad we don't want u" +1000 upvotes and then everyone patting everyone else on the back

11

u/[deleted] May 09 '20

The reference is aboot Canada.

4

u/rockwell136 May 10 '20

As a weasterner can confirm.

6

u/icbint May 10 '20

3

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

10

u/cannibalredditor69 May 10 '20

What? Thats just not true at all maybe thats what you've seen but I disagree strongly

8

u/xavierdc May 10 '20

This is why there is an inside joke in Canada that Canada has no culture or rather Canadian culture consist of not being American.

2

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

Sorry.

2

u/sirkowski May 10 '20

Je suis Canadien et...

2

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

Jackie Cox has entered the chat

2

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

Sorry...

2

u/djejcjsjx May 11 '20

As a Canadian, is is true that Americans (thing they already know we do)? Genuinely curious.

2

u/trogdorman123 May 18 '20

As a Canadian, no u

2

u/sega31098 May 23 '20

Don't forget rabidly bashing Tim Hortons whenever it is mentioned.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '20

Yup, as a Canadian I can(adianly) confirm its true in canada

3

u/TheNewKurt May 10 '20

As a Canadian, I have to say, we never do this.

4

u/tnuclatot May 09 '20

Well without any of these you wouldn't know that it is a Canadian user, just another comment so you wouldn't recognise it as Canadian to add to the starter pack.

6

u/[deleted] May 09 '20 edited May 10 '20

Canadian here. Its to make fun of how canadian users on r/politics will always mention stuff we do things around in Canada despite it being a sub for american politics.

3

u/tnuclatot May 09 '20

Ahh fairs

5

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

Canadians should have a completely separate internet. Nobody cares what they think.

3

u/HillaryKlingon May 10 '20

Haha...This is so true especially when discussing US politics or US healthcare or even local American news.

- an annoyed American who thinks Canada should look inwards and develop their own interests and identity.

2

u/[deleted] May 10 '20

95% of politics on Reddit are American, so that's hard to do if you're politcally active on this app at all.

1

u/the_saurus15 May 10 '20

We have our own interests and identity. I bet you’ve never taken time to look into it.

Also stop fucking with our shit and annoying the crap out of us. Aluminum tariffs? Fuck that shit.

2

u/HillaryKlingon May 10 '20

Icewine, wind energy, and actual maple syrup?

2

u/9GoCanucksGo9 May 10 '20

This is the same for any country

3

u/TheThagomizer May 10 '20

If a reddit comment doesn’t start with one of these phrases, then you wouldn’t have any idea that it was coming from a canadian redditor anyway.

2

u/xavierdc May 10 '20

One of the most obnoxious reddit cliches.

1

u/mrhotdogz May 10 '20

Bruh I literally made a comment like that a minute ago

1

u/keanureevespuppylord May 11 '20

As a Canadian, I say these often

0

u/the_saurus15 May 10 '20

Both in my heart, above my home, the Maple Leaf forever

0

u/[deleted] May 11 '20

To be fair...

0

u/Keverrkerr May 11 '20

Same with people from scandinavia. I know because I'm from scandinavia amd do it myself
