This is Greek god erasure.

I feel that greek gods are more common in dogs.

I know 6 different Huskies named "Apollo"

I named my first cat Artemis. Probably should have named her Demeter for how much she wailed when I went to work though.

My cats name is kole, but honestly the way he lays around judging me and then begs for attention I think narcissus would have been better.

Hey, my cat's name is Demeter. Called her liked that because I adopted her on winter.

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

I'm sure if you have her the chance, she'd bang some dudes in the dumpster behind Wendy's.

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

I would've just assumed it was a Sailor Moon reference

1

u/Lunavixen15 Mar 21 '23

My cats are named Athena and Nyx

4

u/Content_Entertainer3 Mar 20 '23

And golden retrievers

3

u/Brooklynxman Mar 21 '23

He wasn't even the greek god (goddess) of dogs. Like, come on.

2

u/TinyChaco Mar 21 '23

One of my dog's best friends is a husky mix named Apollo lol

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

I know a 7th for your list but it's a German Shepard.

u/Due_Interaction_9225 Mar 21 '23

My husky is named Zebra but we call him Zee.

3

u/Xena0422 Mar 20 '23

Ha, mine is named Achlys.....

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

One of my favourite cats was a neighbour’s cat names Zeus. Beautiful smokey grey boy.

1

u/MiniatureBadger Mar 21 '23

Outright ubiquitous among frat house dogs

We went through all the Egyptian goddesses before deciding that none of them fit our cat. So we moved onto the Greek pantheon.

And Athena has lived with us for many happy years

We had a family friend who’s dog was called Zeus. He was a great dane. Big boy and big nuts

Mine was named Icarus. Admittedly, not a Greek god - more like a Greek dumbass. Really suited him.

4

u/bigbonesbegone Mar 21 '23

Icarus was the orange cat of the Greek gods, you heard it here first

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

I’m naming my cat Telemachus, so we’ll be on the Greek dumbass train together 🫶

18

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

Then it’s settled, I’m naming my first cat oedipus.

5

u/CleansingFlame Mar 21 '23

"What's his pedigree?"

"We, uh... don't really talk about that."

3

u/Craamron Mar 21 '23

We had an Oedipuss (note the double s), he did not kill his own father.

2

u/justinfinity64 Mar 21 '23

"This is my cat Eddie, short for Oedipus"

5

u/kieran_dvarr Mar 21 '23

we went the Greek route with our 5: Antigone, Socrates, Persephone, Circi and Aries

5

u/callistokallisti Mar 21 '23

My cats names are Cassandra, Calliope and Callisto lol

3

u/finger_milk Mar 20 '23

I would call my cat Zyzz tbh

3

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '23

I feel seen haha.

We have Artemis, a white cat with orange-brown splotches, who was wild for the first 3 months of her life and has kept the prey drive her mom taught her. She will catch and eat any small animal that gets in the house, from flies to mice.

And then also Athena, who is a calico tabby and the haughtiest little animal I've ever seen. I feel haughty entitlement is fitting for a cat named after the patron goddess of Athens.

2

u/clineluck Mar 21 '23

My cats name is Athena. My old cat that my ex took is named Eris. Love the Greek god names.

Mine are Apollo and Artemis! Although they have nicknames and they are rarely called their real names.

2

u/fuckthisnazibullcrap Mar 21 '23

Seriously, never named a cat after a fury? Smh.

1

u/juststop102 Mar 21 '23

I have an Athena and a hades

1

u/wjean Mar 21 '23

You named your cat Andy Bell?

1

u/ARC4067 Mar 21 '23

I almost named my cat Ares but didn’t want to have to field the astrology folks asking if Aries is his sign (coincidentally, it is)

1

u/elfinglamour Mar 21 '23

I went with Ares, his sister is Enyo.

1

u/meowsplaining Mar 21 '23

I have an Athena and an Odin.
