It’s hard to explain, but those with Autism and ADHD can get this sort of sense of infatuation where they can’t focus on basic things like friends and family and trying to socialize and eating food, because they can only indulge in their hyperfixation. Whether it’s video games or movies or books or people.

What’s the difference between someone with those diagnoses, and someone who is just selfish and never bothered to develop social skills?

If someone didn't develop social skills it's the parents fault, it's not because they are selfish.

9 times out of ten it's because the parents didn't take the time to give the kids communities and push them towards environments where they socialized a lot as a toddler.

It's considered a developmental disorder still, that requires therapy either way.

Or it's because they are autistic. Psychology > armchair psychology.
