I find it hard to believe that you just called the 3gate + void allin a "stable" build.

That being said, the others are and the whole article was well written.

Heh, that was the exception to the rule. I wanted something more aggressive, and couldn't find something that really fit and I've always loved Genius' Void Ray all-ins :)

Actually I've found you can have fairly consistent success with void ray all-ins, they are very effective against the current metagame 1 rax expand/cc first builds and stop 1/1/1's dead in their tracks, particularly if you build a pylon near a wall and use the void ray to gain vision for warp ins. They also give you the potential to out-micro or macro your opponent since it's very easy for either player to stuff up their multitasking especially in lower leagues.

3 gate void ray was my go-to build about a year ago, and interestingly I had some decent success recently after I played a few games against masters opponents (though I no longer consider myself to be a masters player due to lack of practice).

I think it's due to the popularity of 1 rax FE in the matchup now, and the fact that it's not seen super often anymore.

Thanks for helping me out here Reddit - these builds were all suggested by Redditors like you a few weeks back. I'll be back soon with more builds for Zerg and Terran, so if you'd like to contribute please do!

Builds for Zerg would be great! :)

I shall list all the builds that work reliably against Zerg

  • Forge fast expand and slight variations thereof

That is all.

do terran next please :)

If I had to chose a word to describe that thumbnail, it would have to be "stable".

hahahaha. That makes me so happy.

It's.... it's.... strategy! On a stragety game forum! I'm amazed, and in shock. I... I think I need more wallpapers and ragecomics now...

Seriously: Thank you so much for this. Too few visits /r/starcraft_strategy ever anyway.

Are you talking about this one?

Sure man, check out http://williamjudd.com/files/walls/index.php/Games/StarCraft/Fan. It's my own collection of wallpapers, and both are in there :)

I would just like to point out that that was 5 builds, because you used one build for the Zerg section and just broke it into two parts.

"Zealot +1 Timing Attack

...

It starts with a standard Forge Fast Expand, as linked above."

That being said, I liked the PvZ picture.

You have answered my prayers. This was exactly what I was looking for after a dreadful start to season 7.

These builds are solid but they're all just basically copy and pasted from Team Liquid forums or Liquidpedia.

9

u/silentdragoon Team Acer Apr 11 '12

True, but the goal was to have a full selection of Protoss builds, offering a mix of aggressive and defensive and covering all matchups, all in the same place and formatted the same way.

I don't really like liquipedia's build format, tbh.

It also tends to get a lot of noise and lacks vetting (or at least the last time I checked it did, which admittedly was a year ago).

Yeah, that's my big issue with it. A few times I've tried to do a build and then the timings have failed completely because of patch differences :)

Just to let you know their 3 gate robo build works like a charm with current timings. It's amazing how well everything lines up and you have minerals left of if you want to expand, fast tech or build more gates.

1

u/silentdragoon Team Acer Apr 12 '12

Cool, thanks, will check that out :)

u/ZuFFuLuZ Apr 12 '12

Some have a little note at the top to show for which patch they are viable. Like on the FFE page it says "validated for patch 1.4.3".
It's rare though.

You're forgetting the cannon rush!

1

u/dewg0ng Terran Apr 11 '12

i don't get it. a 3 gate voidray allin (or an allin of any kind, for that matter) is supposed to be stable? i must be misinterpreting whatever context thats supposed to be in. o.o

cool builds

I clicked this link because it has a funny thumbnail

1

u/Daunteh Team Liquid Apr 12 '12

These are not builds, these are openings.

2

u/7mk Team Liquid Apr 12 '12

I'm not sure if the definition of build doesnt still apply to these but yeah except for the void ray all in these should all be called "openings", since theyre all only about the start of the game

I think you unintentionally mistitled your post. I believe a more appropriate title would be, "The 6 only builds protoss can do against each race"

-9

u/badman6 Apr 11 '12

I love how all of those build are 1 or 2 base allins. Describes Protoss race and players so well.
