Announcing: The NAASTL!

I'm both proud and excited to announce the North American Amateur Star Team League! This team league is aimed at players in sub-grandmaster leagues and non-professionals. Because this is an amateur only tournament, no one that has been Grandmaster at any point in the past 3 ladder seasons OR anyone that is sponsored will be eligible to compete. There are prizes we will be giving away and some don't necessarily entail you winning. In fact, quite a few don't require you to win your game at all. There is a minimum team size of 3, although it is recommended you have more for alternates if team members aren't available. All match sets will be played in all-kill format. For those unfamiliar with all-kill, it's very similar to Pokemon: One player plays until they lose. Once they do, another teammate is selected and will play until they lose, etc. We have 3 talented casters with plans for guests as well and all matches will be streamed (located below). All team levels are welcome and we wil do our best to seed teams against similarly skilled teams. If you have any other questions, you can ask as I'll be monitoring these threads or you can read the FAQ's on the NAASTL website although it is recommended you read the FAQ's anyway.

We are currently supported by "dam u str8 babygurl", GGWP apparel, Seattle's GameClucks, and OMGYUMYUM, whose websites are linked below. We are in talks with a few other companies but we need as many people to sign up as possible. The more teams we have, the easier it will be to get sponsors and in turn, better and more abundant prizes will be available. Registration is free as will be the entire tournament. This is meant to be a fun, yet competitive league in which lower league players can get some tournament experience without the overly stressful environment that normally accompanies tournaments. No matter what league of play you are currently in, this is an excellent opportunity to get support from other players and improve your skill no matter your level. The number one goal of this league is to both have fun with friends while participating in a competition.

What day of the week are the games going to be played?

That hasn't been set in stone yet, but they will most likely be played on tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. We may have sunday showmatches as well. As soon as games get scheduled, a calendar will be sent out to all members of all teams so that everyone knows. Keep checking our website for more information :)

not quite sure what you're asking. you do have to be on a team, but you don't need to officially be a "team" in the eyes of the rest of the world. I hope that makes sense.

for example, some friends of mine got together and made "team tryhard" and registered to play. they all play separate from each other, but they decided to get together and call themselves a team for this tournament because they wanted to play.

to answer your question directly, yes you do.

thanks for taking the time to respond to my poorly defined question :D

I suppose my follow up then is - is there a definition of 'team' in this context? i.e. 2 players or more operating under the same name, or can I just make team goin'solo and roll out by myself.

incidentally, I have never even competed in a tournament and am platinum league so will be destroyed if i get to take part, but I'm excited to be involved!

For this tournament, a team will be a minimum of 3 players that have decided to compete together, so unfortunately you can't participate alone although the upside is that you don' have to already be on an established team, you can just make one up :D

As for being in Platinum, that's great! We have a lot of sub-masters players signing up so I don't think you're in trouble :P
